Worst Irish accent EVER...possibly!
There have been some awful Irish accents put on by mainly American actors over the years but this has to be one of the worst. I know there is an argument that goes ‘American Irish still in contact with roots to the emerald isle would possibly have a strange US/Irish twang but it doesn’t wash with me. If they can’t do it convincingly in casting DONT DO IT, it may seem picky but it is the sort of thing that can get in the way of a good movie and totally sink an already bad one.
Top offenders in order:
Tommy Lee Jones (Blown Away): The worst accent of any kind in any movie, doing a comedy Irish accent that even then he can’t maintain for more than one scene, shocking!
Dennis Hopper (Ticker): It is like he can’t make up his mind if he is going to do one or not, I laughed every time he opened his mouth, unbelievable!
Ewen Bremner (The Rundown): A Scot playing an Irishman, why? There was no need for him to be Irish! “you accent is rubbish, I know why not try being a Scott!”, good grief!
Billy Connolly (The Last Samurai): Same as above. A Scot doing an Irish accent....badly, very badly!
Brad Pitt (The devils own): He did a better job in Snatch and to be fair it isn’t that bad here, but still.
Harrison Ford (Widow maker): ok it is Russian, but I had to put it on because it is just so bad. “ok Harrison your fired!”
