No Chemistry

Watched this last night on TV and I had to turn it off halfway through. The scenes with Leelee Sobieski and Chris Klein were so awkward that they made me cringe. There was just no chemistry between the two. Same with Josh Hartnett and Leelee, they were more like siblings than boyfriend and girlfriend.

Personally, I think another leading actress might have made this movie better….

I agree. It would of been better with someone else too.

She was 16/17. She hadn't learned how to act yet. Whatever, the movie came to a flying stop when the love affair began.

I'm watching because of Leelee. I doubt I would watch it if the character was played by anyone else.

The acting is the only thing that saves this film in my view. It's the writing that is awkward. Leelee and Klein were quite good together I thought, given what they had to work with. A very clunky script.

My body's a cage, it's been used and abused...and I...LIKE IT!!

I agree with the poster that said the writing was flawed. The script just seemed to jump around a lot! And it also didn't seem to know what *kind* of movie it wanted to be: A love story or a tragic drama.

I thought Leelee and Chris did well, and I think Leelee and Josh were OK (Josh was very believable). But Leelee's character was supposed to be a bit standoffish since she was falling out of love with Josh's character.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I think it is entirely the writing. It seems that so few writers understand love and romance, they don't understand what it is so they can't write a story showing it.
