dump the sweety and get with a real ass

anybody notice that the message of this film seemed to be something like: attention teenage girls! cheat on your nice boyfriend with a prick. in the end its for the best.

I don't know but thats what I seemed to get from it.

reply

Yeah, and also, dump the poor guy for the rich one.Poor or not,no one sleeps with money, its the person, and lets face it,Chris Klein doesn't hold a candle to Josh Hartnett.

reply

cant believe she picked him over josh...wacko

reply

~ I thought that was a dumb move on her part too. Hurting the only sweet guy who loves you alot & would never hurt you. Over a crush for some new dude.

reply

Yeah, some jackass who burns down your family's diner and leaves you in your darkest hours. Thats a winner right there.

**Ok, bring on the hate-mail. I'm ready.**

i agree with all of you , she should of picked jasper over Kelly... thats why i hated the movie it was almost like she wanted his money.

This movie made me never want to date a woman ever, not turn gay mind you close though, it was horrible if that is how all woman think then the good guys have no chance.

It has been along time since I saw this but didn't she die of a bad knee?

>> This movie made me never want to date a woman ever, not turn gay mind you close though, it was horrible if that is how all woman think then the good guys have no chance.

Women do that all the time (dump the nice guy for the bad one, especially in their high-fertility period), so get over it, lol. A woman's primary concern is to find the best seed for her egg, so you better have what she is looking for or she's gonna dump you real fast (or only keep you around only as a foxhole/babysitter/atm machine). Of course guys (read: douchebags) do it too (guys are always looking for sexy/fertile women: the more the merrier), but women have got more chances of doing it anyway since they are the ones being approached all the time; not the other way round. So women get to pick and choose, and nice guys get to pick up the leftovers. ;)

Truth is bitter brother, so I am sure my comment is gonna hurt a few thin-skinned souls here. Read some sociology books and you will know what I mean. Women will disagree with the above, because disagreement is part of their logical, conscious response, and logical response is almost always false. Their actual response, the emotional response, is the real truth. ;)

>> Yeah, and also, dump the poor guy for the rich one.

Umm, principle of hypergamy at work? ;)

>>What's with all the misgogyny guys? There are plenty of movies which show guys as being pricks and dumping the nice girl for the bimbo. Should we assume that guys are like that in real life? Then again, listening to some of you morons, they probably are...

Every time someone points out the truth about the female gender, some feminist is always out there to call him a misogynist. However when the male gender gets bashed by women then no one calls them misandrists. LOL. Acknowledging the truth about a gender doesn't equate to hatred.

>>most of u people r pretty ignorant... he could of been the nicest guy in the world but she just didnt love jasper in the way she did kelly. she saw him like more of a friend than someone who she could really be with.

Typical. Nice guys and gals usually get relegated to the dreaded 'friendzone'

reply

lol, calm down. Not all chicks are that morally...deranged. Trust me, I am one, and Jasper is like, the perfect guy; well, i would have picked him over Kelly anyway. He's sweet, kind, and still has the badass thing going on. It's hot. Btw, any chick with an ounce of self-respect will pick the nice guy over the "new-fling"

reply

i know...........even after that dumb slut cheats on him he still loves her and will take her back...........

reply

Yeah a big reason why this movie isnt a fav of mine...I hated who choose. I felt so bad for Jasper..When he was expressing how much he loved her...she just ditched him and went after Kelley..She jsut left him there crying..It made me so upset..How could she do that to him? I lost all respect for her right there and I didnt care what happend after that point.

Jasper adored her and would have did anything for her. You know how hard it is to find a guy like him? All the guys I run into are Kelleys..or worse. It just made me upset that she just through him away like that..when there are so many girls that love to be in her shoes to be with someone like Jasper

reply

You don't always feel a connection to people. Maybe Jasper was one of the only guys she'd ever known. Maybe she needed to know if more was out there. Maybe Kelvin was the man of her dreams. The movie fails to show any of this.

However, I've met a lot of pretty girls in my life, who are sweethearts, but I would never date them.. because theres just not that connection. They may or may not feel the same way about me, I'd never know. But there is something in you that ticks.

The way this movie goes, Jasper is great guy. He's an awesome friend. But is he the kind of guy she's attracted to? Is he the kind of guy she wants to spend her life with? We don't really know what her dreams were. We didn't know what her complete history with Jasper was. Maybe they were too close, in her mind, to start something serious. That happens a lot as well.

In the end, it's a decent film.

reply

In the end this was a movie though and the way the writers were trying to sell true love is a girl who is dating a guy forever and dumps him for a guy whose been a jerk to her friends burned down her family's diner and leaves when he finds out she is going to die! I know in real life people really make this choice but the writers were trying to get you to root for a complete jerk! If they wanted us to root for him give him one endearing quality besides the fact she "loved" him. IN a walk to remember landon changed and was the sweetest boyfriend/husband ever! In this movie he is the same jerk throughout!

reply

Okay, the message here was to find someone that will fulfill your emotional needs as well as physical needs. Sure, "nice guy" Josh Hartnett wanted to have a family and future with her, however, didn't seem to really be around all that much. Does it seem so weird that she left her "boyfriend" who only seems to dialogue with her maybe three times a week. Funny, considering they both live in the same town and relatively close to eachother, isn't it? Furthermore, the "new guy" Chris Klein brought her a more emotional relationship--seemed to dialogue with her every thirty minutes in the movie, and wasn't always, I don't know...GONE. He brought to her new experiences. As a woman myself, I'd be seeking more of that emotional and physical fulfillment with a man who doesn't decide to go 'off' for 3/4 of the whole movie. There were many themes to this movie. None of which was "gold-dig". They were: seek change, seek an emotional relationship, seek a loving relationship, seek someone that does not want a cookie-cutter future, having the ability to change your future, etc;

Quotin' Midge from That 70's Show, here, in regard to your film criticism; "Jeez, you're dumb!"

reply

The message is pretty strong, though... God kills golddigging sluts and rains dispair on their families. Women should take heed.

reply

^this.

It won't give up, it wants me dead-God damn this noise inside my head...

reply

This is the way most women in general are anyway... the guy had money. Whoever said "size DOES matter to a chick," was referring to a man's wallet, not his member.

reply

Yeah, love makes the world go round.. love of money that is.

reply

I really like this movie, but yeah - the theme! Big issue there, because it's not something I would ever go along with or even endorse if my friends did it...it's a great movie because it has good acting, great lighting, locations...and i like the start of the movie with the rivalry and stuff, but when it gets into the cheating and stuff it kinda puts me off a little. I dunno, just my opinion there.

reply

Watching this film...wait let's be honest - watching josh heartnett in this film left me wondering how could she prefer chris klein over him? he had everything - the looks and the sweet personality! Who needs more? And one of the last scenes when he watches sam and kelley get together and he smiles... oh my god why was i not there to comfort him?:p

reply

This movie was a huge waste of time any chick with any sence at all would have chosen Jasper he was awesome. I didn't even care that she died I thought it was funny. they should be sued for makin the movie

reply

Wasn't it Jasper who ran over the gas Pumps, that set the diner on fire? Kelly Crashed in to the near by building, right?

~~tnwiens~~

reply

ok, i must be a freak or something, coz i would've chosen kelley over Jasper any day. jasper had no appeal for me watsoever. i dont care bout keeley being rich, i still wouldve chosen him.

reply

well with a name like medusa from hades I'm not suprised

reply

so i like mythology? wats the problem?

reply

Well, aside from the fact that Josh Hartnett needs way too much time to himself and can't talk to his girlfriend for more than 3 minutes at a time, you'd think the ability to walk properly would have something to do with it.

..Didn't Hartnett get disfigured? I don't want a maimed husband. Let's be honest, neither do you.

reply

I watched this movie a couple of weeks ago and I don't think the writers did a good job of it. I found myself on Jasper's side, Kelley was just a prick most of the time. I thought the story was going to be about her taking off with Kelley and then realising she had made a mistake and would go back to Jasper in the end. I think the majority of the audience would have liked Jasper more than Kelley. I can understand that they made her fall in love with Kelley, but it kind of gave the message that the rich, out of town guy was better than the poor, local man. The movie was just stupid in the end.

reply

I hated the end part where the diner got rebuilt and the girl and Kelly carved their names into the wall, while Jasper just watched looking sorta happy. If I had written this movie, Jasper would've taken Kelly for a drive to become good friends to each other after all this, stopped at a deserted area and shot him. He was a prick and it probably would've been a total waste of money just to make him the main character.

They call me the wanderer.

makes you feel bad for jasper when she jumps in the bus too...he had a bad ass car too...take a chevelle over mercedes anyday...or was it a malibu...

now THAT made my night. This movie would have been 1000 times better if that had happened! Genius!

Does anyone realize that while Jasper may have loved Sam, Sam didn't love Jasper? Would you stay with a really nice boy who treated you well, even if you didn't love him? No, you'd go with the one your heart truly loved, even if you had bad moments or he didn't seem like the best choice. How many times have you seen a friend with someone that you deem "a jerk" while your friend maintains that yes, they fight or yes, he's rude to her friends, but they're in love and the good moments out-weigh the bad. No relationship is perfect all the time (ask anyone who's been married for more than 6 months), but if you and your partner are truly reciprocating love, well, that's what counts.

reply

Thats the whole point of this post. That she fell in love wiht a jerk over a nice guy. The point is that she was stupid to love a jerk. She had a really nice boyfrien that any sane person would agree was way better for her and she ran off with some jerk. Yes she loved him. That is the issue. What kind of stupid idiot falls in love with a total jerk? Do I have friends that go out with total jerks? yeah and they end up completly unhappy, they usually had self esteem problems to begin with and they end up being dominated by them. Unhappiness ensues. this movie ends before all that could happen so the message ends up being: Happiness comes from dating an ass

reply

most of u people r pretty ignorant... he could of been the nicest guy in the world but she just didnt love jasper in the way she did kelly. she saw him like more of a friend than someone who she could really be with.

get over it people.

reply

Heh, for the most part, I agree with the flick not having my happy ending of choice. Just watched the movie and I wanted to see if there was any other dissatisfaction with the end pairing.

Howevah...since when is love a rational thing? Besides, it's not like Kelley was some nefarious character planning on stealing and using the girl from the get go. He cares for her a great deal--who's to say you have to only love someone without any faults? That's completely unrealistic. And Jasper kept pushing *his* feelings about their relationship, how *he* knew they were meant to be. Really loving her, (like his character does) he comes to terms and accepts her choice and pursuit of happiness.

Seriously, stop making this plot about yourselves and then projecting the gold digger and "sucker for the wrong guy" stereotypes on all women. That excuse for a pity party is long over-used and is getting very old. The "nice guys" who always whine about the object of their affections picking the jerk--try to accept the fact that liking someone as a person and friend does not necessarily equate chemistry and move on.

And I could just as easily say that guys overlook the "nice girl" for the "shallow-cheater-with-more-T-and-A"...but that's just more stereotyping and excuses. It doesn't change the fact that if someone is not interested in more than friendship, you should probably accept that role in their life and move on.

I mean, sheesh. Part of the flick's theme seemed to be that you don't really pick who you fall in love with. It happens, and you simply hope you chose the right way to deal with it.

reply

I agree. Sam did not love Jasper, she was simply going through the motions. And I feel that all of you are underestimating the level of Kelley and Sam's relationship. Kelley was falling hard for Sam and Jasper realised no matter what he did and how much he loved her it would never stop them from being with eachother. Sam and Kelley were in love or at least on they way there and the reason he didn't cry is because in all honestly Kelley looks like the kind of guy that keeps all his stuff bottled inside, not exposing anything, because he never really had anyway to express his feeling to.

reply

Well, the movie did a horrible job of explaining any of this. You sort of have to mentally fill in possible details (like you've done in your post) for the relationship to make sense. As it stands, she looks like a dope who makes poor choices.

I could even understand "the heart wants what it wants" - ie, the "you make me so horny I can't help it" factor. I mean, the way the movie plays, it looks to me like she chose Kelley for pure horniness and money.

The movie's missing oomph and a lot of adult details that would have made it feel more honest. It's almost like it was written by and for small children.

Edit: lol, the scene where she danced in the kitchen to a pop song while making breakfast - twirling and slamming the utensil drawer shut with her hip. She did everything except pretend to sing into a spatula.
