15 Years Later and...

...this movie is still as horrible as when it was released.

I watched this in the theater and absolutely hated it.

Strangely the movie has stuck with me from that one single viewing, simply because of how predictable and often ridiculously over-the-top all of the deaths were. It was almost like several minutes in advance, here comes a death, get ready for a sanguinary delight you bloodthirsty teens.

The worst was that of Billy Hitchcock, it was just so obvious the way the whole thing was setup and how long it was drawn out. The final death was also pretty obvious ("so who's next?" [roll eyes]), but did not take so long thank goodness.

I also think it was probably because there seemed to be a lot of other horror movies being released in that era and many of them were much better than this - e.g. Scream, The Faculity, Urban Legend, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sleepy Hollow, Stir of Echoes etc.

Anyone else hate this like I did and if so, why?

Nope, it's just you I guess...

I doubt very much I am alone.

You are obviously a fan though considering you have taken the time to reply...

Well, in about a month you got zero people to agree with you about it being a bad movie, and two people to disagree. Also if you already doubt you're alone in your dislike of this movie, then why even post at all? It can't be because you're unsure, so what's the point?

This isn't a fan site, so all posts, positive or negative are allowed obviously. If you want to critique the film that's fine, it's definitely not perfect, I agree with that. But don't couch your need to do so in a fake 'am i alone in my dislike of this movie' type post. Especially if you're already pretty sure you're not the only one who doesn't like it already...

"About a month" is nothing for an older movie like this.

It may take many months or even years before responses appear considering the age of this flick.

But... a fake post? Give me a break. I want to see who else dislikes it and if so, what is their reasoning.

I am also curious if this would be different if I was only seeing this movie for the first time now and if there are those out there in such a position.

Or you could face that you are alone or in an extreme minority opinion.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

Or that, but I think I will wait and see :)

It also could be that it is a certain demographic who watches this movie.

Wow, what a harsh crowd. Of course you're not the only one who dislikes this movie- it has a 36 MetaCritic score and a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes (with a 4.7 average).

I would say the film was decent enough, but I certainly wouldn't call it a good movie. The one thing I give it credit for is what a lot of critics don't give it credit for- the premise. I liked the conversation Alex had with Clear at the coffee shop (was it a coffee shop? Clare was drinking coffee and they had those tables so I would assume it was haha). We're all gonna die, but what if we knew our deaths were coming? Would we try to stop it? That philosophy is interesting- think about doctors who tell their patients they're going to die in a certain amount of time or people that are getting older and older- will they reverse their diets? Will they exercise more?

I also thought it was interesting how Alex said "what if we were meant to die on that plane". It makes you think. Would if you were supposed to die in a fatal plane crash, where all your classmates and teachers did?

I even think the plane premonition was cool (albeit, being a little over-the-top and drawn-out) and when the plane actually crashed. After that, the film still keeps its momentum. I liked the funeral scenes, I liked how Alex's peers thought he was like some witch or supernatural force that can control death. Yet, the film had to ruin it with Tod's death. That was so stupid, so drawn-out, etc. At that point, you almost give up on it. As a matter of fact, most of everyone's death is way too drawn-out. The only deaths I liked were the plane crash death, Terry's death, and Carter's death- all because these deaths are somewhat plausible.

What I liked about the film was the premise and the discussions characters had about death- death is something that involves everyone and a subject most humans talk about. What I didn't like where the cartoony, drawn-out deaths.

I love Final Destination... one of my favourite films. But I first saw it when I was 12, so maybe there's some nostalgia clouding my love of the film. But I doubt it because I still love it just as much today as when I first saw it.

The others were a bit crappy though (but not entirely bad) because they just copied the formula 100% with nothing new.

Yes that is me in a blonde wig. Don't pretend I don't look sexy af.

Whenever I teach students how to write good storyboards I mention Final Destination I and Back to the Future I.

I don't think you will find the haters of Final Destination on a Final Destination board...
