No bodies?

It seems like around 4 billion people (give or take a few dozen) were killed in the asteroid collision. Was there ever any explanation as to why they were able to find ruined houses and ruined cars, but no dead bodies?

(I know they did find the odd dead body, in dramatic places, like in the farm house, and in the van, but not one in the street).

I don't know if it's a good enough explanation but I think because such a long time has passed we are to assume that the bodies have decayed away or been eaten by scavengers...it turned out that they had been in suspended animation on the train for 60 or 70 years in the end didn't it?

Frayed knot. Bones last for centuries, at the very least, otherwise we wouldn't have palaeontology. And certainly longer than the metal of the ruined cars they found scattered about the place. There would be some human remains.

I dont mean to sound patronising, but it's a work of fantasy. Most sci fi is incredibly unrealistic - its just a bit of escapism!!

That said, the absense of bodies can be easily explained by the last reply. Given that dogs were already shown to have become feral it is safe to assume that in this universe most surviving animals would be above us in the food chain anyway. Over time most bodies would have been dragged away, moved by weather and other factors or just rotted away - dont forget that yes, under the right conditions, bones can last for centuries but as with anything exposure can quickly take its toll.

Hope that was some help on your confusion! :P

ACID RAIN!

The actual strike did not kill many at all in the UK from what was said in the show, the UK is too far away to feel the blastwave, we got earthquakes (which did not do to much damage from what we saw left in the show) and tidal waves on the coast I guess (which would have killed a fair few). It was the aftermath of the blacked out sky from the billions of tonnes of rubble tossed into the sky that blacked out the sun for years from the explosion of dust into the sky.

So really not many will have died at all to start with, they had time to get off the streets and hide, then try to hold out as the cold came (they said -35, which is chilly) then the food would run out etc.. so really people would not exactly be on the streets rotting away, they would be holed up somewhere waiting to die fighting against starvation and cold. You also saw plenty of graves in the show, so I guess many people who did survive got to bury anyone who died. A

Anyone who died on streets as said acid rain would not be nice, and well dogs would eat them and maybe even people :D tasty.

So in the end that is maybe why I would say not many bodies were about, but who knows :D

........Actually the zombies ate all of the bodies.

They're still finding human remains in Verdun, and ANZAC Cove, nearly a century after WW1. That despite the fact that all the armies involved specifically detailed people to find and bury the bodies. And, we're only talking a few hundred thousand casualties, not tens of millions in the UK. There are dogs, and various other wild and carrion eating animals in these places too.

I thought about the acid rain too. Why would it eat through bone faster than it eats through cars, or tin roofs, fences, and the various other rather flimsy man made objects littered about the shooting locations?

And through out the entire series they only find 1 body. That's just bloody weird.

Bones exposed to the elements, animals and acid rain aren't going to last 50 years. We did see some in the farmhouse.

True but there wouldnt b anyone to look for bodies in this future though, most of the human race would have been vapourised in the blast, plus this is 60+ years on,nature would have took back most of the cities maybe covering lots of the bodies, there was loads of bones in the holdiay park/medical centre, there would have been similar centres set up that we prob never saw.
