Mariette
Would anyone stop themselves from slapping her in the face if you saw her walking down the steet?
shareWould anyone stop themselves from slapping her in the face if you saw her walking down the steet?
shareWhy would you want to do such a thing?
Mind you, I could think of a thing or two to do with her ;)
I love the Hornblower series (only just discovered it, bought the whole series after watching one episode, brilliant!) but apart from the Duchess, the women are insipid weaklings. I know, twas the style of the times, but still, surely a swashbuckling hero deserves a ballsy leading lady? Both Mariette and the wife need spines.

"The Horatio/Mariette 'romance' was hysterical. It was so fake - he had no chemistry with her whatsoever! It doesn't happen in the books, so it was blindingly obvious that the writers just stuck it in there to try and prove to the audience that Horatio liked girls, and wasn't having it off with Archie on the quiet. LOL"
Actually, I think that Bush was more his style... now there's a "man's man" lol

Oh c'mon, she is a pretty girl acting the way she is supposed to act. If she had been some sort of butch Xena fighting the enemy, Horatio would never have fallen for her in the first place. Who would?

At first I thought Mariette had potential as a character.
I realize she's acting the way a woman back then did act but either due to poor writing or poor acting or both she just came out wrong.
She could still be feminine and act like how a woman did back and yet still be a strong character.
The Duchess is my favorite female character from the series.
Have I been watching a different version of 'Frogs', because in the Goofs section there's talk of Mariette being guillotined. Or (judging by some of the posts) is that just wishful thinking...?
shareReally, why do creepy fangirls hate every female role in the Hornblower series?
Is it that another woman has Hornblower and they can never have him?
I identify myself as more of an Archie fangirl.
I wouldn't say that fangirls all hate the female characters. I really liked the duchess character. She was a lot of fun to watch on screen and I enjoyed the character.
You got to be joking she is stunning.
Can only be a jealousy thing
