I stole the t.v.!

Has anyone else noticed this phrase in the opening credits and thought it strange and random?

reply

I stole a TV. That's why she did more time.

reply

But she says "I stole the TV", making it sound weird.

reply

It's because she says "I stoled a TV"!

trying to make sense of this show is the worst way to go about enjoying it. just sit back and laugh at those seemingly random parts. like where did jerri get a japanese silky named sooki? who cares, it's hilarious. particularly when she mentions that its hand trained to eat grapes out of anywhere she puts them.....anywhere....

but i digress.

I always thought the line was odd and out of place.

Really? That's like my favorite line of the entire series. It's so random and the way she says it is so funny... imo.

I love lamp
Come on!

reply

I also found that line pretty weird. Not bad, just random. And I'm pretty sure it is "the" tv, not just any old tv.

I didn't mean to call you meatloaf, Jack.

reply

I love "I stole the TV" quote it all the time. It wouldn't be the same opening credits without it...

I'm half-loaded and watching the commentary.

Evidently she just blurted that after watching the new introductory credits.

To me it sounds like she at some point said she didn't steal the tv. Like in court.

Still the funniest show on television.

reply

no, its "I stole the TV".

reply

No offense, but please prove it or shut up. Good lord. As long as I've watched this show, from the very first time I saw that in the opening, it sounded like "stoled" which is 100% in keeping with her character. Fer Chrissakes, somehow you people are reading so much into this it's absurd. Now we have her stealing her family TV--just how would she be doing that, since she had run away?

From www.jeriblank.com:

Q: What does Jerri say about the TV during the second and third seasons' animated opening?
A: Some people think that she says, "I stoled a TV. Did some more time," but in fact she says, "I stole the TV..." People also wonder why she says this. Basically, when Amy Sedaris was recording the voiceover for the opening she was just ad-libbing. She was improvising during her narration and described what she saw happening on the screen. The narration was a little different when the first few episodes of the second season aired for the first time.

It's also stated in the commentary. Proof. There.

"I can't vote... I stole the T.V. and I sold a baby... a white baby."

"A cage went in search of a bird."

reply

OH thank GOD!!! that line's been killing me! Thank you thank you thank you! I've been wondering that for years!

reply

Now that I know how it happened, it's even funnier than before!

reply

I always thought "I stole the TV! was a riot.
But now that it could be "I stoled a TV" I find it even even funnier.
Either way, WTH, it's hiLARious.

reply

I prefer "I STOLED A TV"

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.
