Rank the 7 Silent Hill main game entries

Sorry if this has been up before, but I've been particpating in a lot of other horror rankings lately and felt that video games should have it too. Mine are as follows:

Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Silent Hill: Origins
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Silent Hill 4: The Room

Homecoming and The Room being the only slightly disappointing ones. I've never felt that any of the games have been less than "above average".

Twelve milkmen IS theoretically possible. Thirteen is silly.

I absolutely adore the Silent Hill games!!!! Here is my order.

Silent Hill 2 - By far the best! It's got perfect atmosphere and the story is just so well told. This game scared me to hell.

Silent Hill - The start of it all. Very eery and creepy. I loved the music and everything about it.

Silent Hill 3 - Loved Heather's attitude in this game. It's so teenagers and perfect. The atmosphere is again good but I miss the sirens. Still a great game.

Silent Hill: Origins - This game was good. Nice insight into the beginnings of events and the whole story of Travis was very well written. Inconsistencies aside, this was a good addition to the series and the controlled otherworld shifts were really good.

Silent Hill 4: The Room - Ok so I had to force myself to get every ending in this game, which is a shame because I absolutely adore the story of this one. Shame the gameplay was terrible.

Silent Hill: Homecoming - This game was the worst. Just a cash in. All the american developers did was rip off the movie and make a fan service of crap. The exploitation of Pyramid head was dyer and the fact that he was the movie pyramid head made it worse. The story was pretty weak too.

I can't wait to see what Climax has done with Shattered Memories!

hi,

Thought i would try putting a thread up for ranking the 7 silent hills including the new release shattered memories.

My rankings are also listed in terms of the games i have completed.

My rankings is:

Silent Hill 1 (completed): This game redefined survival horror for me. Played it when it first came out and still have a copy, fair enough the graphics arent upto much but the scares and shocking moments make it the best.

Silent Hill 3 (completed): My biggest gripe with the silent hill series was that they never followed the same story, so when i played 3 i was surprised to see they finally tried to make a proper sequel. good game all round and was good to visiting some familiar places from 1.

Silent Hill 2 (completed): I enjoyed the new look silent hill when it first came out and still do. As much as it messed with your mind it was and still is one of the best in the series.

Silent Hill 4 The Room (completed): To be fair, most people are putting this at the bottom of their list because of the story. In many ways it is the weakest, but i still enjoyed the story and the new ideas that was brought in because it was something different, like what the game was meant to be something different but ended up as being silent hill 4. Also the game is sort of a spin off of silent hill 2 with walter sullivan and the superintendant of the building you live in being the father of the protagonist in Silent hill 2. A much better game than what people give it credit for.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories (not finished): I must admit i am a person who likes to see old ideas reused. however, withe release of the resident evil and metal gear solid remakes over the years being quite sucessful, i thought i would keep an open mind when i heard that they were gonna do the same with silent hill. As soon as i saw the first trailer i thought the game was gonna be good, and i was right. Although i aint finished it brings some new ideas and a new look to the series.

Silent Hill Origins (not finished): To be honest, i never knew this game existed till a few years after it was released, I had traded in my PSP and when it came out on the PS2 i was amazed by how easy it was to pick up and play. I managed to get my hands on a PSP copy too and had gotten quite far into it before having to trade in, solid entry despite any inconsistencies. Just hope to finish it some point.

And finally:

Silent Hill homecomning (not finished, stuck): The first hi-def silent hill game again brought a new look to the series for me. the only thing i have a gripe about it is, the combat system. at the moment i am just after the graveyard and looking for some postcards for some woman and i have to fight a nurse and some monster with daggers for legs is all i can describe them. I am finding it hard to kill them without them killing me first. personally i think the game looks and plays superb but the combat is what lets it down just now and makes it my bottom choice.

Thanks

Silent Hill 1. - The original is still the best imo.

SH2 - Some elements of the original plus brand new story.

SH3 - Alot of good unlockables means alot of replay value. I remember replaying this game a couple of times because of it.

SH0 - This is good. Plays like old school SH1 but has the breakable weapons thing from SH4.

SH4 - I thought this was a pretty good game. The FPV room is cool and I liked the new features in the game especially to have more action oriented battle setup.

Shattered Memories - Well it's different. Loved the interactivity and the therapy sessions etc.

Homecoming - I don't have an Xbox360/PS3.

And after that I think they're all pretty much the same lvl of disaster. We need Team Silent back if we're ever gonna get a worthy sequel.
I will say that Downpour was a better game than any of the other non-Team Silent Games, but it didn't really feel like a Silent Hill game, for me anyway, if you liked it, good for you.

Thus far, I haven't hated any game in the series. (Though I haven't played the recent Book of Memories game)

1- Silent Hill 2. The most iconic game in the series, and certainly this fan's favorite. A phenomenon. 10 out of 10

2- Silent Hill 3. I found it a bit underwhelming after the second game, but this direct sequel to the original is one of the most (if not the single most) terrifying entries in the series, and it has a compelling story. A 9 out of 10.

3- Silent Hill. The Original. A fantastic game. 9 out of 10.

4- Silent Hill 4: The Room. A provacative, eerie, unique entry, Silent Hill 4: The Room is criminally underrated. An 8 out of 10.

5- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. A very fun, interesting re-imagining of the series. 8 out of 10.

6- Silent Hill: Homecoming. A solid, fun entry. Not perfect, but not bad by any means. A 7 out of 10.

7- Silent Hill: Origins. I personally found the game a bit on the wonky side, with some strange problems and more of a lack of focus than other entries, but it was still enjoyable. A 6 out of 10.

8- Silent Hill: Downpour. Despite a slew of serious problems, this is still a fundamentally solid entry in the series, and it has a lot of great ideas... just mixed executions of said ideas. A 6 out of 10.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

FInally, someone mentioned downpur! A lot of people arent putting in a few games, which I understand! I own every SH except Homecoming and Downpour, as I stuck with my PS2 and I do not feel like going to the new consoles. Ive seen the stories and have played tid-bits so I can still judge, except downpour, so sadly, downpour will not be on my list as I havent seen the story yet (I do have it downloaded and plan on burning it to a data cd disc and a dvdr or dvdrw and transfer to a vhs tape. Anywho, enough blabbing!
Some of these will contain spoilers, so if you wanna just see my list, ill put that at the bottom. But I feel I should explain why I put each where I did.

Silent Hill 2 - Loved this game. The characters were all fantastic. I mean there are times you even wonder....if his wife really dead? To see the demise of his wife...is just heartbreaking, you really feel for James. THIS is the game I wanted to see adapted to a movie. 10 outta 10

Silent Hill - First game and it was great. I was a huge Resident Evil fan, and someone asked, you ever try this game Silent Hill? Well I was so into RE I had to try, and I admit, first, I was angry and mad. I couldnt figure out where to go and what to do. All the roads are closed..where the hell do I GO! I walked away for awhile, and eventually I went back to it. (I admit, I had helped from my friends...right after I figured out go to the dog house, I was hooked!) This game is just a pure adventure. You go there and here and back there down here over there. Also, all the different endings, which to me was a new concept. Usually you get one ending with a game and you gotta accept it. This one you get 5 (Some only say 4, but the UFO ending is still an ending). I really enjoyed the whole story of this game. Voice acting wasnt the greatest...but remember...I played Resident Evil! :-P (9.5 outta 10)

Silent Hill 3 - I wasnt sure if to place 1 or 3 next, I went with one by a hair. I loved Heather. I thought her attitude was adorable. The only thing that disappointed me in this game was (BIG SPOILER) the death of Harry Mason. He just sat on the couch and let himself be slaughtered? I mean come on, we played Mason in one and he was a bad ass mo-fo. Also, it was interesting to discover Heather is Alessa. I really loved playing this entire game and the story was fantastic. The scene where Vincent tells Heather,"They look like Monsters to you," gave me goosebumps. It really made you think when you had to fight Claudias father...that is her father!? A fantastic game! (9.2 outta 10)

Silent Hill Shattered Memories - I know this might shock people but Im a huge fan of alternate scenes and endings. And the ways you can transform Cybil and all the different and sudden changes you can get is just awesome (Remember, they released this game on ps2). I really enjoyed this, yes, there isnt any fighting, but the story was just great for me. I enjoyed this game immensely and feel it is an under-rated gem. (8.5 outta 10)

Silent Hill Origins - I was happy when they transfered this game from psp to ps2. It is an exciting game, not the best, but a fun adventure. (8 outta 10)

Silent Hill 4 - Ohh boy. This one ISNT a bad game, but man the story really needed work. First off, it is something when the best ending is the ending where Walter wins (The bad bad ending) and you see him and little Walter in the apartment. You feel more for Eileen than you do the main character. (Why cant I recall his darn name atm!) (I think his name was Henry?) See, that is my point, I CANT even remember the dudes name! (I will say I was happy to buy this game for the ps2 off ebay for 7.64!) It isnt a bad game, but they really needed to have more conversations, I mean the best character was the first girl because the Henry and her had decent convos. I feel Henry and Eileen should have talked more. I mean with the good + ending, she talks, he nods. I wish there would have atleast been a romantic interest between the two. They dropped the ball bad on the storyline imo. THIS isnt a bad game, but again, when the rest are gems, this is the one that sticks out. Like Zelda and Mario 2 (USAs Mario 2), neither are bad games, but when comparing Zelda 2 to all the other Zeldas, it sticks out. SH4 def sticks out. I feel if this game was called (7 outta 10)

Silent Hill Homecoming - Now Ive never beaten this but ive watched the story. AGAIN this isnt a bad game, but the combat doesnt feel Silent Hill-ish. It feels totally something different. I get it, go for changes, I mean RE 1-2-3 are def different from 4 and 5, but I didnt like the change of SH: Homecoming. (6 outta 10)

Now Downpour. I have the story, but my main computer is in the shop. I do plan on watching it, but I got a feeling it will rank around SH4 and Homecoming. I still feel this series should keep going, but we need to stop with Pyramid Head. Every game doesnt need him. He was SH2s guy and let him be that. I love this series and even though I dont own new consoles, Ill always watch the new stories as long as theyre on youtube (And if in HD, even better!)

Now the quick version

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
Silent Hill Origins
Silent Hill 4
Silent Hill Homecoming

Havent seen Downpour yet.
