My reason for why people don't like this movie...

For some people, women in particular, the film had some key lines that either made you strongly agree or disagree. It really depends because there aren't a vast majority of women who believe in sex the way the main character did. I'm not talking about her to a full extent "have sex with half of paris and kill your husband." I mean in a general outlook of sex and relationships and desire, there are someone women who would agree. My problem is the main character was so damn unlikable. From the second I saw her I couldn't get myself to like her, and Paul was just the worst dancer It made me depressed as hell. It was mainly these pretentious tosser characters that made me dislike the film. I mean if they at least connected and made a LITTLE sense, but everything was contradicting and chaotic.

Also the thing with the end about naming her baby after him and "counting souls." Is she basically saying she killed a soul and replaced it?

I'm sure it all made sense if Breillat's mind somehow, but the moral of the story is totally lost on me since nothing anyone says or does makes any sense what so ever! The characters are totally unrealistic, they are constantly contradicting themselves... The dialogues and the endless monologues were so ridicilous they made me cringe.

And what's with the "being a medical subject for students" -scene. I mean it is voluntary isn't it? She could have even asked for ONE female gynocologist! The film is full with plot-holes of this sort, or whatever you want to call it.
