Lindsay laughing at the end of episode 5

Can someone explain why she was laughing I don't get it

Release from a stressful situation.

Actually it was Mr. Rosso who suggested that Lindsay's laughing was "a nervous reaction to a tense situation." Really, though, she was laughing at the absurdity of the whole situation. Lindsay had agreed to help Daniel cheat on the math test only after he told her his "track three" story, earning her sympathy. When Daniel tells the story AGAIN, this time to the adults (who seem to be as affected by it as Lindsay was), Lindsay realizes he's full of *beep* He basically fed her a line and she fell for it. How will she react? Will she have nothing more to do with him? No. Instead she can't help but laugh (and keep on laughing) at the ridiculousness of the whole thing - especially the details of the story Daniel concocted (being a "track three" student, etc).

That's probably my favorite scene of the whole series. Linda's laughing is magnificent and the reactions of the adults are priceless, including the math teacher's accusation that Lindsay is "high as a kite," Mr. Weir's defiant, "My daughter is NOT high!" Lindsay's mom: "Oh, what is going ON??" And as we fade out, Mr. Weir's insistence that Lindsay is "a track one girl."

I agree...brilliant summation. Although upon further review I think my favorite scene would be when they are shooting rockets with the new girl and Neal remarks, " I can't believe SHE is running to be with US"!

Best series of all time.

Aww, yes, the Maureen episode was so wonderfully bittersweet, and it had a great Billy Joel soundtrack :)

Yep, exactly. Easily one of my favorite scenes as well. I love the way Lindsay says "track three" while she's cracking up. That and when Daniel mouths "be cool" to her as if it isn't way too late for that.

They also make a comparison with Breaking Bad.

There has been 2 heavy comparisons with Breaking Bad, 2 very similar scenes.
