What was McNelly's illness?

I know you asked this question some 6 months ago, and though you could've answered your own question in 6 seconds by a simple Google search, I'll answer you anyway just in case anyone else is curious. Leander McNelly(1844-1877) suffered from tuberculosis, known as consumption back then, and was a sickly man throughout his Ranger career. In 1876 he retired due to his worsening condition and died in September of 1877. I know it's a tad late, but hope that answers your question.
