Has Hollywood truely run out of ideas?

I wonder why Hollywood would take an excellent movie with a brilliant cast (Ellen Burstyn and Sam Shepard), and remake it 19 years later when there must be other stories to adapt. This movie was OK, but why not just show the original. It's not like it wasn't in color, or something.
