I thought it WAS a Rick James doll. I thought the movie was gonna be a re-enacted scene of the alleged kidnapping story of that lady he burned with a crack pipe. XD

According to a magazine interview with writer/director Charles Novell Turner, the doll's cornrow hairstyle was done as a tribute to Rick James.
