The American film institution's top 100 list. It states only American film, but it includes many UK films. Furthermore, 2001: A Space Odyssey is probably the second best on that list (only to Citizen Kane), but it is placed in the 16th spot.
I think the list is simply for entertainment purposes, and really should not be taken as seriosly as something like the theyshootpictures.com top 1000.
I've got less of a problem with this list than I do their "100 thrills" list. They put very little thought into that one!
