What's going on with this movie?

Does anyone know what the studio has decided to do with this movie? I'd really like to see it. Any information would be greatly appreciated...

reply

Exactly, how can I see it. I'm willing to purchase, but how can I get it?

reply

You can't buy it as it hasn't been released yet. My twins are starring in the film. Filming finally wrapped last October, and we're told it will be released the end of the summer. Keep your fingers crossed!

Ok Fonekween listen. Nobody cares that your twins were in this movie. Every single post you make its, "well my twins are in this movie blah blah blah..." usually your statement about your twins, has nothing at all to do with the rest of your threads. Congratulations your twins are in this movie, but you dont have to drill it into all our heads in ever single message you post here.

Hopefully, it won't be too much longer.

Finally! Someone who actually knows what they're talking about! My twins are starring in the film, we flew out to LA in October '02 to finish, and was recently told by Katy that it should be released at the end of the summer. We've all waited a very, very long time for this, so please keep your fingers crossed!

Well I can really tell you whats up since where it was being filmed I live. Well rsiclare, they will not be finishing this movie anytime soon, or as I suspect NEVER. My very good friends father co-owned the hotel where the cast and crew were staying at and according to her, also the local paper;they ran out of money to hang around and film and afford to stay in the hotel at the same time. BTW I met the young boy who plays the main character, Joseph Ashton, I got an autograph from him after his "autograph signing" party. All I can say is that I am not impressed at all about him. He sounded VERY into himself and so sure he was the best child actor around. Anywho, now you know what the deal is. Moral of the story......if you don't got the dough don't go!

reply

the plug has pretty much been pulled on this movie. if by some chance it's ever revived, don't excpect matthews to be in it: he was filming this at a time when the band was in a bit of a lull, they hadn't started writing the 'lillywhite session' songs yet.

reply

You are mistaken. We finished filming in October '02, Dave is very much part of the film, and we've been told by the producers that it will be released the end of the summer '03. My twins are starring in the film.

I just ran onto this site by accident. My g-grandfather had the store in Oklahoma where the first Red Fern Grows film was made and then the re-make was started there before it ran out of money.
I did not know they did finish the film. My mother spent many of days in this store and I visited it in 2001 and was so amazed at all the antiques from days
gone by and took pictures.
If you have any info on this film, I would love to know about the release. I know my mother, as well as I would love to have a copy.
I am also a Nursing Home Administrator and those resident's love the story and we have shown all the original films to them.
Thank you so much.

Yeah I also got to this site by accident. I am from Tahlequah, so I was just wondering if any of the orginal seens filmed in Tahlequah stayed in the movie?

reply

It has indeed been shelved, for about 2 years or so now. I doubt very seriously it will ever been finished, as scorpioluver13 says. I do have a 4 minute clip of part of it if anyone is interested, just to see what it is like to see Dave himself in front of a camera. If so, send me an email at [email protected] and I'll *try* to make arrangements to get it to you. If you do not have a high-speed internet connection, please do not even ask. It's a 40MB clip.

reply

You are mistaken, Clint!. My twins are starring in the movie, and we did indeed finish in October. It is due to be released at the end of the summer.

Being the mother of the twin boys who play Rubin and Rainie in the film, most of what you say is true. However, the film was finished (we flew out to LA to do so) in October '02. Joseph is not full of himself, and is a very polite and humble young man. He is a normal kid going to high school and plays soccer. He has been very fortunate to be involved in filming other movies prior to Red Fern, and is also the voice of Rocket, a cartoon character on Sat. a.m. tv. You need to be careful about what you say when you really don't have the facts.

Hope the boys had a good experience in L.A..
This is the guy that played there Dad.(Orvel Baldridge) Tahlequah,Ok..
Do you know if I'm still in the movie? or did they cut the ole man out?
The reason I'm asking is I can't find a credit with my name on it.
I have been told by a friend that the editor says I'm in Character
and a great job.
Can't understand why SAG actor has no credit.
If I am still in the movie I would think they would want to correct
the credits, before they make all those prints for the theatres.
Being premiered in NYC has any one run onto a Film review ?

Scorpioluver13 really should get to know people before judging them- and especially before posting their opinions on a public access message board. I was involved with the making of the movie and I spent some time Joseph, as did my grandfather and my brothers. I have to tell you that I found him to be pleasant and very down to earth. He was a typical boy although shy at times. Maybe mistaking shyness for arrogance is a fault you are going to have to deal with.

reply

Hi! Yes, I do. My twin boys are starring in the movie, and fortunately, we finally got to finish the film last October. Producers last told me it would be released the end of the summer, so keep your fingers crossed!

I'm very happy that your kids are in the movie but it becomes overbearing and obnoxious when u constantly reaffirm the fact that they are "starring in the film." BTW hate to burst your bubble but the characters that they are playing do not star in the film. The have a very small part.

reply

Ok...I would call this the end of the summer. Is there any other inside info you can share with us? I want to see Dave Matthews sooooooooo bad!

reply

It's been a long time coming, but it appears that it's finally happening!!!!!!!!!! Where The Red Fern Grows, featuring Dave Matthews as Will Coleman, will be playing at the Tribeca Film Festival on the first weekend in May. Matthews' role in the film was first made known in October of 1999, but the picture's development stalled due to a lack of funding. A new production company took over the rights to it about a year ago, who completed the previously-abandoned post-production work. Red Fern is Matthews' first film role, although he is known as an excellent actor based on his community theater involvement in Charlottesville in the early 90s. This will be the 2nd annual Tribeca Film Festival, a weekend of movies created to celebrate New York City as a major filmmaking center and to contribute to the recovery of lower Manhattan. (all the info at nancies.org) ((a dave fan site))

not doubting any of the above information, cuz mine was quite dated, but i do find it interesting that the offical band site makes no note of the film's release (as of April 13)....granted, DMB fan sites are notoriously fast at getting their info, but forgive me for being skeptical until i see something i can totally believe in

reply

I'm positive on my source of information. This film is indeed playing at the Tribeca Film Festival in early May. Checking out DMB wesbites aren't the only sites you can confirm this information. Try the Tribeca Film Festival website at www.tribecafilmfestival.com
And edtherevelator, you said a few posts back that Dave would not be in this film...I'd like to inform you that you are wrong. Dave is in this film, and is very excited himself for it's release.

reply

actually a few posts back i said if they had started this up again he most likely wouldn't be in it, because i was under the assumption that they had not finished filming and that it was shelved. i did admit i had dated info. no need to bite my head off.

reply

Didn't mean to bite your head off. The film was finished with it's filming during the fall. Producers and composers have just finished the musical score. Not sure if Dave is going to have anything himself on the soundtrack, it would be nice. Sorry to bite your head off, I misunderstood.

reply

do you happen to know if this is gonna get a wide release (or something close to it)? Or am i gonna have to hunt this one out?

reply

I am clearly mistaken, and am just making it around to apologize. Perhaps 3 days after I made my post above, I learned that the film was purchased and finished, and will be released at the film festival mentioned above in New York in just a few weeks. On such short notice, I am unable to attend. I don't know about how widespread it will be. If I had to guess, major cities, and then sporadically until it reached video/DVD, which I'll be buying a copy of. Unless--- it's groundbreaking.... which it is not. I can tell you from the clip I have. Get your hunting clothes on, but I doubt it will be hard to find. Nothing DMB-related is that hard to find these days.

reply

Clint,
The film will be widespread. It should hit theaters in September, I am sure of this. It will be on video, should be on dvd as well, but not sure. How old is your clip? If it's from 2 years ago...then it is no where near groundbreaking. The film has had some MAJOR editing since then with the new director coming in. It's spiced up quite a bit. I would like to see the clip, if possible.

I don't believe it. Maybe she should confirm that a few more times. Too bad the brothers weren't supposed to be twins in the book, kind of ruins it.

You have conflicting statements here..."they thought it would be creative to put twins in the new movie!" and "They dont even make them look like twins in the movie."

I just love this book and don't like the idea of changes being made to the story. I certainly don't find it "creative" to change the details of a classic story. You say they aren't to be twins in the movie, and I'm thankful for that, please don't take my gripe as a judgement of your brothers. Hell, they were cast, so I don't doubt they have talent.
