They'll never get it right...

I think the problem with this particular story is that it just cannot be adapted into a film without losing the magic of the story when you read it. There is just too much visual and mental imagery that gets conjured up while reading the book, and too much graphic description of the look, smell and feel of things within the book, that there is no way to transfer this to film without losing the basic foundation of the heart of the story. Where the Red Fern Grows is an amazing book, and it should remain a book only.
