Decent film but has a huge plothole (spoiler)

So they have placed heat-detonating explosives next to industrial sized light bulbs in a stadium above government officials they want dead. The heat from the bulbs activates a timer. Now when they manage to shut off the light bulbs with just 5 seconds to spare the countdown stops. Major plot-hole here. Everyone knows that when you turn off a light bulb it doesn't cool down immediately. Especially not within a matter of just 5 seconds.

It would have been more feasible and created more tension if they had cut off the lights with like 1 minute to spare but the heat from the lights kept the countdown running until there's just a few seconds to go and then cooled down enough to stop.

This was a decent film, not bad but not really great either. Just below good.

If you wanna see what this director can really do watch Tae Guk Gi.

Yeah, and please correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't they say heat + light = reaction?
So cutting out the light would be enough to stop it even if it was still hot.

My opinion...just an ok film. Surprisingly good but I can't say I'd buy a dvd.

Yeah photolastuff you're right. It was a heat + light reaction.

Watched it again just to check - the scientist who's explaining how CTX works says that CTX needs light AND heat at the SAME TIME to make the explosion happen. So even though there's still tons of heat, the light wasn't present to detonate. Then again, it's an action movie. Logic doesn't apply.

Yup, thats true. I think this brings up another plot hole. The bomb that blows up the building was CTX (Unless it was a different type of bomb to bluff) but it was in a place with no light or heat. What was up with that?

Waitaminute, didn't your statement just show that it's NOT a plot hole? The CTX was placed inside the lighting fixtures, next to the bulbs. Therefore the light + heat from the bulbs were both present. When Ryu cut off the power, the bulbs went dark. That's what stopped the reaction, not just the lack of heat.

I guess it could be argued that there was enough daylight seeping into the fixtures. But we can just as easily assume that the fixture housing was tight, not allowing any daylight in. That would make sense since they were heavy duty outdoor fixtures.

One way or the other, I agree that the countdown to 0.5 seconds was just for gratuitous dramatic effect. That's my gripe with all bomb-timer movies... why does it always get down to friggin 1/2 sec before it's shut off? Once, just once I'd like to see them defuse the bomb with like 20 minutes to spare.
