I thought the movie was great personally. I just dont see why people hate it so much, it was really good IMO. The plot was really cool, the actors pretty believable...what was so bad about? I just REALLY liked it...it was really good and suspenseful.

wow...i agree. i was suprised that it got such bad reviews. i found it pretty enjoyable. it's not academy award winning or anything, but it captured my attention and kept it. i think it's highly underrated.

I liked it as well. Although I really love Joshua and Paul so my opinion is probably biased towards liking it no matter how bad the movie might be. (Although I don't think it is bad in any way--maybe just conventional.)

it was the first movie, i wanted to leave the cinema while playing. it was so boring and there was no relation between the viewer and the actors. i did not care what happend to them and the whole time i was thinking about what to do after the movie ..and that`s always a baaad sign.
there is nothing remarkable or quotable about it. i saw it in 2000 i guess and some weeks later i couldn`t even tell what it was about.. and today i only remember that it was one of the 3 most money- and timewasting films i saw in a movie theatre, along with fast and furious and the replacement killers..
would stare at a wallpaper for 90 minutes instead of watching again

I thought it was pretty good too. A bit iffy on some parts but still pretty good overall. Joshua Jackson was impressive and Leslie Bibb was good too.

I agree, OP. I like this film a lot. Yes its a bit of a male soap opera, but the actors do rather well, the suspense stays steady, and it has twists & turns.
Good soundtrack also.
What's odd is that while this good film is generally panned, the truly poorly-acted boring fluff Cruel Intentions is popular!

It got bad reviews in an effort to down play just how true to life it was. The less people see this film, the less likely they will believe that $hit like this actually happens in real life. This movie, though not an Academy Award Best Picture nominee, was very entertaining and much of it told a story that the powers-that-be be don't want the average person knowing about. (Forgive the prepostion :)

shareI actually just rewatched this one first time since it originally came out.
I would definitely stop short of calling it a "great" movie, but I don't think it's a bad one. It's at least competently made across the board, has a nice look, and features the relatively unexplored world of secret societies.
I'd probably give it a 6.5/10, which for me is a fairly decent score.
