Did the Will guy piss anyone else off?

Did anyone else notice that the Will guy played the friend card a lot but was really just using the Luke guy to get the information about the skulls?

reply

Im watching this movie now as i speak i have to pay attention to this i havent seen it in like 2yrs lol but thats wrong if Will did do that lemme pay attention

reply

I don't think he was using Luke for the information, because he had been doing the research for several months before Luke was accepted into The Skulls, but I did find him really annoying and I was frustrated when he was so blatantly inconsiderate of Caleb's personal items, by stealing them. He was going way too far. And, despite everything that happened Caleb didn't mean to hurt Will, Will was being a jerk by not only stealing his stuff, but by running off with it and ultimately falling down. He was such a stupid character.

I thought Will was annoying in the sense that he was always grilling Luke about what he'd done that day....man, mind your own business!!

Totally.

*SPOILER*

He should've been portrayed differently as when he died you just didn't feel any sympathy for him.

Personally, when they showed him in the ritual room, i thought he kinda asked for what he got. He was standing there under 6 foot letters spelling WAR, he should've foreshadowed something!

Will gets no pity from me. I just watched this movie again. Like you guys said he had been doing research for several months before and he was getting a lot of job offers. He knew Luke’s situation, being an orphan and needing money for Law school and he knew that the Skulls would pay for it. Instead of backing off for a friend he decides to keep digging to make himself famous. Think about it, anyone who’s been to college knows your buddy doesn’t get mad at you for staying out all night. He just acted like he was angry at Luke to try and get him to talk for his article. He missed his rowing practice cause he knew with this story he wouldn’t have a problem getting a good job. All he had to do was give Caleb his stuff back, but in the end he cared more about his story to expose some basically harmless society over friendship and even his life.. Maybe I’m a little messed up, I think he got what he deserved and I certainly would not have burned every bridge I had before I could even cross them. It’s funny because in the end, no one went to jail. No one really paid for their crimes. Litten Mandrake may not be a Supreme Judge or whatever but he’s still rich and Luke still has to find 45, 000 dollars to go to law school. That’s if he gets in which will be hard with a group of powerful men against him.

yeah he was annoying he was acting like the overbearing girlfriend

reply

Yea,I don't think Will deserved to die, but his character was SO annoying to me and Idk why lol. He just seemed very passive-aggressive to me for some reason.

Maybe it was the way the character was written, or maybe it was the WAY in which the actor portrayed Will Beckford. Either way, I wish they had developed Will's character a little more to show that he really did have some redeeming qualities.

I don't think Luke would have been friends with Will for that long if he wasn't a cool guy. But I felt like we weren't shown much about him before Luke joins the Skulls.

reply

thats what the director wanted will to be...the guy who stands up for what he believes is wrong and people butchering him about it...it always happens in the real world...whenever someone acutally stands up for there beliefs and society views it as "different" or "fantasy land" but can sit there and believe in imaginary skinny santa clauses who will burn them to hell if they disobey them....very sad..but anyways, His race was also factor from what I read about skull and bones they are racist and only accept certain bloodlines in them...I relate to both will and joshuah jackson's character because I see myself in both of them...But everyone hates will simply because he states the obvious to his friend and he was right all along..if its secret and elite, it cant be good...these people were gonna ruin his life because he wanted to know why his friend was killed and who did it...

reply

If all he wanted Luke for was to get information, why was he upset that Luke joined the Skulls in the first place hmm?

Think about that Einstein.

What Will did was not journalism, it was an invasion. His motivation was not even righteous, he was driven by greed or a desire for fame. I am not murderous, nor a hooligan, but I would have at least beaten him to a pulp for his crime. He would have been expelled by the university and charged with a felony for breaking the Porsche window, at the least; he exercised terrible judgement. Free Masons pledge to die by the hands of their own brothers for betraying secrets. He would have been beaten within inches of his life by any fraternity on the planet, much less a prestigious secret society. Again, these guys make oaths to guard their secrets to the death. In the world, he might have been disappeared altogether if he had done the same thing to an NSA or CIA facility, so he had it coming to some extent. I cannot even empathize. Dig a deep enough hole and it could be your own grave.

Yep, it's all Will's fault that all that drama took place. He deserved what he got. If he had minded his own business, Luke would be in the Skulls and everything would be right with the world.

reply

Oh ya his character definitely pissed me off!Hated Will....waaaayyy too annoying and whiny!Im not gonna say he necessarily got what he deserved but lets face it...he was askin for it.

Will Beckford was the least likable character in entire film. The sad thing is, the movie revolves around him getting knocked off. That's what killed the movie- that the victim of the crime was unsympathetic. As most people on this thread seem to agree, in some ways, Will and not Caleb was the bad guy, for trying to steal from a secret society. If I had any power over the situation, I wouldn't lift a finger for him. It was his own career-driven motives that led him to disrespect a university tradition.

You don't have to be part of a secret or elite society to understand it as tradition. That's what it was and a self-centered worm like Will Beckford couldn't view it as a tradition. He only viewed it as something that he couldn't be a part of.

He was a crybaby, thief and general punk.

the reasons he got mad at luke were total BS as well, he acted like he was mad for luke not telling him what had happened but it was really for the sake of writing a story, thats not a friend, and I think it was honorable to get satisfaction for what happened to Will but as the other people said he kind of brought it on himself

reply

Yeah, I was actually glad he was killed.

reply

I agree with everything Potassiumman said.

The movies biggest flaw is the lack of sympathy the audience has for the Will character.

He pretty much spies on his best friend from the beginning of the movie and has a major falling out/fight with him after less than 30 seconds of Luke having his initiation as as Skull.

The relationship with Luke and Caleb is far more compelling.

reply

Yeah and he was a tealeaf. Im glad he died. That will teach him to steal other peoples stuff.

One other thing that creeped me out about Will was he didn't act like Lucas's friend as much as he did like his girlfriend!

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

oh yeah, Will was not liked by me at all. He was a real jerk, like he was jealous of Luke for getting into the Skulls, and having friends other than him and Chloe.
the saddest thing in life is wasted talent

reply

When Luke first got into skulls, he was immediately interrogated like a criminal. Like he did something wrong to Will. No 'friend' would do that. So yeah, it was pretty obvious.
