If more movies were like this...

Woody Allen used to make movies like this in the 1970s and was considered a genius. He decides to make another 25 years later and people bash it. Apparently the people who liked those movies haven't seen this film.

I can't see why others haven't seen it. Or, if they see it, they don't like it.

SO many people have missed the point of this film. As many of the actors in the film have said, they wanted to act with Woody Allen in a film. There are a lot of "name" stars in the film, most of the cast are comic actors formerly seen on TV.

It's a farce... If you can't see the humor in this film, you ought to get your head examined.

I completely agree with you. Though I must say I was expecting a little bit more from this director and from these actors. Still it's a very nice movie.

I thought it was a pretty funny little film. Weird, but funny.
Besides, what isn't funny about Woody Allen in cowboy boots and hat?

Woody Allen did not write nor direct this movie. And none of Allen's early films had humor as crude and juvenile as this. Apart from that, it struck me how many Jewish actors are in this movie (Fran the Nanny, Andy Dick, Woody himself, etc) and they're making fun of Catholic religion. Would it be OK if it were the other way around? That's what I was thinking for most of the movie.

I just watched this movie for the first time by chance. I never really heard of this movie, and it was reallycrappy, but I was thinking the same thing. If they did a movie involving Islam or any other religion, i do not think they would have allow it. ALso the use of several Jewish actor playing certain roles and mocking the Catholic church was pretty interesting to say the least

The director is Catholic, though, and he was very clear on how he wanted these things portrayed. He chose the actors and orchestrated the whole thing.

It's not as though a bunch of Jewish people got together and decided to mock the Catholic Church--the director did not feel he was being disrespectful to his own religion.

That's one of the things which makes it funny, IMO. Sure, if it was making fun of Islam, I don't think it would have had the same effect. There are at least 7 "major" Jewish actors in the movie, something which gives it a bit of charm. I guess you have to be Jewish to think this movie is hilarious.

I'm not Jewish, and I thought the movie was very good.

Apparently the previous poster hasn't seen some of Woody's early films, some which were extremely juvenile. I recommend seeing Woody's early films, like "Take the Money and Run" thru "Bananas" to get an idea of how funny Allen was, compared to his more recent films.
