missed the point

I think the poster who summarized the movie may have missed the point with David Schwimmer (and Andy Dick, Fran Drescher, & Elliott Gould for that matter) being cast as a Catholics - they are all sooooo Jewish in their looks and actions it is just damn FUNNY!

Nothing wrong with Jews cast as Catholics, what is so offensive are the slanderous and blasphermous lines in the script. Two of the holiest images in Christendom, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary are trashed unfortunately by Jewish actors.

reply

Trashing Christendom is nothing new in Hollywood (and all media for that matter). It was just done more cleverly this time.

My point though, is that it was funny to see such overtly racially (though not necessarily the most religiously) Jewish actors portraying Catholics of the cloth. I thought that was clever as well.

So what? It's like mocking superman, not as though they're ragging on a real person.

Cesaer, rasputin, King of Egypt, and how many were seen by people who don't think what they see on TV and movies are fake, thanks to propaganda and drug use?

Ticks Ticks thousands of ticks, and not one blessed TOCK among them!

was the casting. It was a hoot realizing that all the representatives of the church were played by Jews.

Definitely an underrated film, and don't forget the excellent last phrase: "If you can't take a joke, go *beep* youself!"
I love that! That summarizes the whole film! It's a big, brilliant joke on the audience! Everything about this dark, twisted comedy is not to be taken seriously. And the fact that Jewish actors played priests and stuff is just 1 example of all the subtle jokes in this film. I love the part where Woody is in jail and calls his DOG!!! I mean, Who calls their dog?? Honestly! Lol, brilliant.

Definalty an under rated film. I share this little gem with friends who can laugh at the church and enjoy DARK humor. And yes casting VERY jewish actors and actresses to protray the Cathoics is hysterical!

reply

Yes, I agree, very underrated. Very funny, when I saw the 4.2 rating I couldn't believe it. I guess that shows that you can't always go by IMDB ratings.

reply

It just shows that snobbery exists. Look at the ratings for other films. I find it hard to believe sometimes.

I'm looking forward to it. Having been raised Catholic, but not Catholic by nature, I enjoy movies that mock the religious side of the culture I was raised with.
