40 cups of coffee and 6 packs of cigarettes a day!

Everyday single day! 40 cups and 6 packs! How is this possible? Just on the surface Mr. Death must have had some kind of mental disorder. The least of which a complusive disorder. I just found that incredible.

Funny, but was there one scene we saw him with a cigarette? You'd think smoking 6 packs a day there would have to be one. If there was I can't recall it.

I've never seen a pack of darts less than 20.

Let's say you smoke 120 a day, and it takes four minutes each time - five minutes might be a little excessive, but not many cigarettes would be smoked in less than four minutes. 4 * 120 is 480, so he'd be spending 8 hours a day smoking as a very conservative estimate.

Statements like that lend credence to the theory that leuchter was just a complete liar who enjoyed finding himself in the limelight.

Choosing to drink that amount of coffee (leaving aside the cigarettes) might be evidence of a pre-existing peculiarity. But also, I wonder what would be the effect of such an extraordinarily high caffeine intake over many years on the quality of a person's judgement?

Someone else who drank huge amounts of coffee, and was decidedly odd, though otherwise having very little in common with Mr Leuchter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Erd%C5%91s
