books vs movie

I like the movie, but I love the series....I mean I know it's meant for younger children, but I still enjoy them.

I also know that there was a 13 part The Little Vampire Series from 1986.I was wondering if anyone knew if it was released on video or dvd....

I like this movie to. I also read most of the books and I totally loved them. But don't compare the movie with the books. This movie wasn't based on any of the books - just ON the books, if you know what I mean.
But its a really good movie.

Was it released on DVD in USA or whereever you're from?
It was only released on video in Denmark.

Yes, there was a book series of "The Little Vampire", I grew up reading them back in the late 80s and saw them made into a terrible movie that, of course, looked nothing like them.

The books weren't afraid to hide the fact that vampires attack and drink the blood of people, not cows [COWS!?!?!] - plus the setting of Germany would have suited the movie far better than Scotland. Shame that German director Uli Edel couldn't pay more respect to the legendary books his compatriot wrote.

Of all the fun elements of the books, which, let's face it, would be equally harmless to little children on their transfer to film, they only kept the flying-by-night scenes and the fact that Rudolph, well, doesn't smell too good.
(And let's not even talk about the dreadful ending.) Shame!

If you haven't read the books yet, please do yourself a favor and leave the movie for later. Or, even better, skip it altogether :)

I have always found it hard to put things to completion, but I swear this time I w...

Yeah Germany would have suited the film a bit better.I suppose they wanted to film in another country other than America, but wanted it in a place where they spoke English.

It would have been cool if it took place in the 1980s,even though there are still new Little Vampire books still being made.

Perhaps one day there will be a better that leaves in a lot more of the elements that are in the book series.

I mean in the book they actaully are proud of being vampires where in the movie they are trying to become humans

i'm going to have to run these books down. just to see how thay work that 'cuse face it being proud of being a vampire is ipso facto proud of being a man eater. in other words how do you make it so that the vampi hunter isn't right?

personally i think the movie did a real good job in this regard. the modern hunter is (while being frankly vary badass) not the nice's of people (greedy/in it for the money/fun...the dud he feed to the vamp's) but at the same time thay show that not all the vampis are particularly warm and fuzzy in fact mostly even the "nice" vamp's are doing it largely for pragmatic reason.

Well I guess it was a case of right place, right time. You never know what film (or book) will catch on. Harry Potter But maybe it's for the best, and The Little Vampire fans can enjoy the books Angela has been churning out without fear of a Harry Potter-style overdose and with no diminishing quality or pleasure :)
