What you both said was uncalled for and immature :)

Now. It was a fair statement. I can understand why someone would see it as antichristian. As it has already been said, crosses are part of vampire lore, they are known to fear them, and in most instances can be killed by them. As was also already said, The hunter himself did not seem to be religious. If you want to consider him relgious though, this would also be a sort of anti christian thing, because techincally good christians are not supposed to believe in such things, and even if they did, as a good christian, they would not have the desire to kill anything, regardless of who, or what, it is.

They blew up congress! ahahaha!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why are good Christians not supposed to believe in that sort of thing?
No desire to kill anything? If I hunt, does that make me a bad Christian?
And vampires are supposed to be pure evil, so it doesn't matter if they're
killed.

The good news is you're going to the party.
The bad news is you're the caterer.

reply

the cross is a myth for vampires. they cant stand it nor garlic, sunlight, etc. so it isnt directly targetting religion, its a part of the stereotyped vampire. and its not like the vampire hunter was a pope or anything. there was no sign of religiousness in him, only the will to kill vampires [thus the cross].

reply

yah, what he said ^^ lol ;)

Every living creature on earth dies alone.

reply

Although i haven't actually seen this particular film, the fact that vampires are averse to religious iconography, means that the mythology of the vampire includes the assumption that god exists. Therefore this is not anti-christian, it is pro-christian.

Hmmmm....but what’s to stop a Bad mortal from holding or even using the Christian cross? Its like anybody can hold one! Stop overacting already that just because the villain of the movie holds the cross means its whole scale anti Christianity. Supposed a film depicted the life of an evil pope in the middle age, would you consider such a retailing the life of that pope an anti Christian movie? Just like some dumb fanatic thought the passion was an anti Semitic movie?

reply

No, its not. Its merely about a group of people cursed. The fact they use a cross is only because of the sterotype that vampires fear it (which is untru btw). They use garlic to does that make the "antigarlic"?

It's a MOVIE..... THE END

reply

Aaaarrggghhh..... it's "untru" that vampires fear a cross? Then I can safely discard the one I have been wearing all these years?

What about garlic? Should I empty my pockets of that too? I would probably smell better if I did ;-)

reply

Interestingly, the garlic thing holds water traditionally on one front: it's often used in recipes to boost one's health. That's why us south Louisianians use so much garlic and onion in our food... That, and it adds a ton of flavor. So, no vampires in my house... My food is heavily spiced! 😉

to wield "the cross" should mean what the cross means:

the cross is the ultimate act of self negation and love of others.

so to wield the cross in order to harm those who wish to harm no one is the epitome of "evil" and anti-christian.

to be a persecuted minority that longs for redemption...the vampires are more like christians than the evil wielders of the cross in the movie.

to take symbols literally is to be both a fool and to reject god. when you make the symbols of God's love and nature into things of power and truth themselves rather than SIGNifies of truth...you worship the symbol rather than god.

I'm a Christian, and I see nothing at all wrong with this movie! It teaches a lesson about friendship, no matter the outward appearance of the person. I mean, it's got Johnathan Lipnicki in it, HOW can it be BAD?
I have no problem, tho', if you prefer that your children NOT be exposed to this "supposed" sub-culture, because some have DEFINITELY taken the vampire thing to outrageous extremes. But, I have always loved the "fantasy" of vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc., as a way to be a "temporary" form of escapism from lifes daily problems.
I still read my Bible, I still pray to God, and the only thing I take from this type of movie is the little bit of "escapism" I get from my daily hectic schedule!
Now, I would not let my young children watch something like "Interview with a Vampire", "30 Days of Night", or "Blade" ... not because of VAMPIRES, but because of the excessive blood and gore! I think (in this movie), the problem is ... they make the "cross-bearing" guy out to be a money-hungry, selfish slob, and not someone trying to save the world from "monsters". Just my 2 cents worth (which won't get ya anything, these days).

"he should've been armed, before decorating his saloon with my friend"!

reply

totally not antichristain. If you read or watch anything about vampires, it talks about how they can't be around a cross. After all they're like dead, and Jesus represents life.

If vegetable oil is made of vegetables, what is baby oil made of?

reply

Adding on to what everybody else said, vampires are technically demons. And demons don't exactly like God. You know, that whole God-throwing-Lucifer-out-of-Heaven-thing. Yeah, it makes them a little testy when it comes to religion. That and the fact that in the Christian Bible (if I recall right, and I'll fully admit I'm not Miss Supreme Christian - at all - and I've not read the entire Bible), all demons fear God, especially Lucifer. Therefore, the cross is a representation of religion, which is everything they hate (and fear), and therefore they can be hurt by the cross (even though the vampires in this movie are good, they're still demons - unfortunately - and are still gonna fear all things religious).

And as for the vampire hunter, well, I mean... he knew his vampires. If in (this movie's lore) crosses hurt the vampires, then he's going to use whatever he can get his grubby hands on to hurt and/or kill said vampires.

Personally.. I think God might enjoy the flick, if he's into this kinda thing..
I'd like to think of Him as a little more openminded than his flock.
I'd hope He has more problems with us killing each other over nothing, then the fact that we make children's movie's about good vampires..
It's not God that is narrow minded.

reply

Amen, simplyben21. God is not narrow-minded. I have said before and will say again, there are no exceptions to God's love or to redemption for this who truly seek it.

reply

*applauds*

Nicely written.

I agree wholeheartedly.

It was me! I was the turkey all along!

reply

Whether or not he wielded a cross, Rookery was not a nice guy. The vampires were in essence seeking redemption in wanting to become human again. Rookery wanted to prevent them from finding redemption. Perhaps this is too logical for something which occurred in a film, but I would consider it anti-Christian to believe anyone is beyond redemption. I personally believe those who truly seek redemption can and will find it. Beleif in redemption is an integral part of being a Christian.

reply

The cross is a myth for vampires, as well as vampires being a myth, so why worry about it? Vampires do not exist. Everyone who says different is undoubtedly either only 12 or a goth.

reply

Let's just say the original poster is a moron.

And leave it at that.

If you want to go extremely in depth about it, this movie could be seen as anti-christian. Vampires are known by foklore, and in general, as being evil. With God being good, and Jesus, the father of christianity, being his son, and ultimatley a part of God, he would as well be good. Therefore making anything evil an opposer of christianity. With this movie glorifying vampires, already established as evil creatutres, it would therefore become anti-christian. But thats taking this movie way out of context. In general, this movie would not make any child turn against christianity. And the young vampire did admit that his family wanted to change. They wanted to be like normal people. So it is arguable. But generally, anything that glorifies vampires, or anything evil, can be seen as anti-christian.

reply

I would never have seen this if it was pro christian; all the ones I've ever known were worthless lay about hypocrits who never lifted a finger to teach anyone to dance!

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

You don't know much about Vampires do you?

reply

Probably more than you'd care to think about.
