..hmmmmm...I don't know...I'm usually into "arty" films and most of them tend to have a "shocking moment/idea/plot" to them...
..but I found "Julien" to be one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen...or more precisely, one of the saddest ones...it made me want to scream, cry and laugh at the same time, and left me feeling amazigly helpless...
...but it also made me a major Ewen Bremner fan (what he did in&as "Julien" is just AMAZING...he's totally freaky on one side & totally lovable on the other) - and I'd recommend the film (or even more than that - I'd really make everyone watch it...I made my friends see it, but they didn't really get it at all...)to everyone and anyone...
...It's one of my absolutely favourite ones...BEAUTIFUL...
I don't think it's as disturbing as some people made it out to be. some of it is a bit shocking, or just simply strange and twisted enough to implant itself in your brain for long after the film is finished, and some of the themes (hopefully not giving anything away: incest, mental illness, retardation, dysfunctional families) are taboo. but it's not going to give you nightmares, and as far as the imagery goes, it doesn't come anywhere near something like Requiem for a Dream, just say, in terms of shock value. it's certainly not "explicit," if that's what you're asking. and overrall, even the parts that might be deemed "disturbing" by some are still beautiful and fascinating.
as for where to find it - I got it at Tower records. you can just check amazon though, it's there. I've even seen it at a blockbuster, as a matter of fact, but I did think that was a little unusual.
man was it amazing. it was disturbing, but not shocking. it will be grained into my head for a while.
beautiful film this was. i absolutely loved it. hehe. i agree with whoever it was who said it brought up so many emotions and reactions like laughter and sadness.
"Now I know I'm always right; that's a thought that never even crossed my mind..."
Their are momments in the film that kind of made people cringe. Disturbing, not likely. Maybe those who may have viewed this film may have never seen actors like them. You know, no picture-perfect, mainstream good-looks. It was more like watching this indie film(don't ask about the title cause I don't remember) where you meet interesting characters talking about a urban legend about a rabbit.
Maybe in your next life, you'll believe the Zodiac when it tells you to cut the red wire.
I agree, definitely some cringeworthy moments, but not really disturbing. Just interesting and even humorous in parts (Herzog is a LEGEND in this film).
