Curious-- might I like this?

I didn't get much out of Gummo, though I thought it was better looking than kids. I've been thinking about adding this to my collection of mental illness films unseen (a bad habit, I know) and was wondering if it is a little more involving than Gummo. For reference, I liked Spider (although it's not one of my all time favorites), The Reflecting Skin, and am a long standing fan of The Devils. So disturbing ideas and an art film pace are not my concerns. I guess what I'm looking for is whether or not this has the same shock-value approach, or whether I'm unlikely to enjoy this since I found the earlier film disassociating.

It is my guess that you will like this. It is a very candid portrayl of a family in the midst of mental ilness. It's very slice-of-life and there is no real story to speak of (in the traditional sense), but this film will move you and for those reasons i suggest that you buy it and add it to your collection! I also had some reservations but I have never regretted buying this film.

A film should be like a rock in the shoe

you might like it, but the average movie goer will be outright repelled. There is a lot of strange and disturbing behavior exhibited not only by julien, but by the rest of his family. so if you are gonna see it, prepare yourself for some disturbing behavior.

I thought I'd add a reply since I've seen it since this post. I did like it quite a lot, although it's not a top favorite of mine. I bought it and don't regret the purchase. I thought the film quality was interesting, but maybe a bit much in places. This movie is worth it though.
