Animal Violence

I'm probably setting myself up to be be bashed here...

But are there scenes of violence to animals ala the cats in Gummo? That movie gave me the creeps, but it was the scenes with the cats made me shut it off after the first half-hour or so.

Before anyone goes off on me for being able to watch violence against human beings, I can make the connection with the violence happening to actors, ie, it's fake, it's not really happening. But the animal is not an actor, and it has no idea why it's being shoved down into a barrel of water. I just can't take it. It's too much.

There are no scenes of real animal violence in Gummo or Julien Donkey-Boy. The scene of a cat being drowned in Gummo is fake.

I thought I read that they really did stick the cat in the barrel, they just didn't kill it. I really hope it was completely fake. Still, it freaks me out.

I thought it was pretty obvious when I watched it, but yeah, the cat being drowned in the barrel was a fake cat. Go to this link:

As unenthralled as I am with Gummo,
I'm always happy as hell to see that ahafilm link.

What web site is that? I'd like to check it out further, thanks very much.

Where does a film crew get an already dead cat? Sorry, still bugs me.

reply

Well, in the US there are laws against animal cruelty, which includes harming animals in a movie for entertainment. So there you go.

At the end credits in Gummo, it states that the filming was supervised by the Humane Society and that all animals were prosthetic.
