Why couldnt they treat his schizophrenia?

schizophrenia is managable if you have medication or something to handle it, so why didnt julien? probably his family would care especially his father.

reply

Yeah, but I doubt his family would be able to afford treatment let alone care about him, sadly. They probably don't even understand he has it.

It seems that the father either doesn't realise that he actually has an identifiable problem, or thinks that Julian is responsible for and capable of simply snapping out of it. Hence the "slap your face" scene.

It's awful how many people with schizophrenia do go undiagnosed and untreated, hence the enormous population of homeless schizophrenics. It's heartbreaking. The movie vaguely reminded me of the tragic case in NYC many years ago where a schizophrenic man who had gone untreated his entire life pushed a woman in front of a subway. It's so rare you see such realistic and honest work done in regards to mental illness such as Julien Donkey Boy.

Well Schizphrenia usuallly runs in familys. So I would have to say that the father along with Julien is schizopherinic. I would honestly after watching this say that perhaps the sister was as well. However, the brother was not. You see schizophernia occurs when there is a evironmental trigger that when touched will make some schizophrenic (<-for lack of better words <-). Having a schizopernic dad causes alot of stress and that is why in this family shows up 3/4 times or so I believe. There have been studies done in Finland about how if a possible schzopernic (they had a parent with schophernia) was raised by biological parent(s) had a higher likely of themselves having this disorder. However, raised by the "normal" parents had an 86% more likely hood of this disease never surfacing.

so thats what I learned
