its a west ham fotball club tattoo.

sean bean has a sheffield united tattoo in real life and as most people from southend follow west ham (for some unknown reason) they covered it over with that

What is this "West Ham" stuff? What is South End West Ham?

Never heard of it and I'm a devoted Sean Bean fan for 20 years since 1986 dating back to the wierd, odd, strangely compelling film "Caravaggio".

I'm not Little Miss Smarty Pants but I do know an inordinate amount of useless trivia about that gorgeous hunk of male pulchritude, the ever glorious, glinty-green-eyed, snake-hipped, "tall drink of water" with legs that go on for miles and miles, rugged jawed, blonde beauteous Bean-o. Sean Bean is on the Board of Directors and a financial investor in Sheffield United Football Club. I'm around the same age as Sean Bean, and as long as I can remember he's always been stone cold, rock solid devoted fan of SUFC and never heard of this Southend West Ham business.

It's almost treasonous that Sean would have a different football clubs name tatooed on himself. The only other tatoo he has besides 100% Blades on his arm is a 9 elvish tattoo from LOTR when he was in Austrailia and bonded with the lads he was acting with.

Please advise - it's a matter of National Security and my life depends upon it.

Nah, that's bullocks - but still I'd really, really like to know.

Send me an email to the board and I'll pick up the message 'cause if I left my private email at Yahoo I think ya' get banned from the board - bummer!
Bye,

Colleen,

West Ham, (or the Hammers) are a English football (soccer to you) club, based in West Ham in the east end of London. Southend generally has lots of West Ham fans as a lot of people were moved out of the East End after WW2 to Southend and Essex so there is a lot of history of supporting London clubs. (Including the area of Essex I am from). Also people tend to support their nearest Premiership or Division 1 club, which in this instance is West Ham. Southend has its own football club, but is not so popular as they are in a lower league. Therefore, Sean Bean in the film, could feasably have a West Ham tattoo temporarily placed over his Sheffield Tattoo, as playing an Essex Boy and having a Sheffield United tattoo would have looked a bit silly as Sheffield is miles away and it is unlikely any true Essex Boy would be a Sheffield United fan. And the character in real life was probably also a West Ham fan.

As a little bit of background:

Southend is a place in Essex which has a long history of being a Victorian seaside resort. It has a pier and fast trains to London. It can also be a bit rough, but is a lot of fun if you a looking for a good night out and maybe a few goes on a funfair. West Ham Football Club unfortunately used to have a reputation for rasist violence amongst a small minority of football hooligans who supported the club. If you want further info watch "The Firm".... its along the same gangster lines as Snatch etc but more gritty and a lot less glamourous - The Firm is more like Essex Boys in that it is gritty, violent and nasty and shows the real underbelly of uneducated and working class Britain in the late 20th century. None of this rose tinted "cockney geezer cor blimey" nicey attitude - believe me, it was rough.. Not everyone is like the people in Essex Boys or the Firm and most people from Essex are hardworking, law abiding people who like to have a good drink and a laugh.

Love
Cath xx(An Essex girl and West Ham fan!)
