Lily's Wedding

One thing I think about when I watch this film that is hard to fully understand is how Gwen was even AT the wedding by the time she wrecked the cake. Lily must really be a saint (or must have been that day)...but where were her friends or any other family? Her husband's friends/family?

Gwen was 45 minutes late, and they waited to start the ceremony.

When she does show up, she's drunk and high on pills. She can't much walk straight or talk right. She stumbles her way through the ceremony.

At the reception, she gives an insanely insulting toast, and no one appears to even try to stop her, take or turn off the mic, or whatever.

She and Jasper are falling all over, messing with the food, being way too loud and crazy, etc.

And then they take out the cake before she goes and has herself the accident that puts her in rehab.

I understand how hard that must have been for Lily -- she obviously loves her sister a great deal, didn't want to have the wedding without her, didn't want to fight with her at her wedding or have to throw her out, was embarrassed to a devastating degree, etc. But it's kind of crazy that no one else seems to have even made an *attempt* to remove Gwen from the wedding or at least try to contain her. It's a sucky job when you just want to have fun at a wedding, but I'd think Lily's friends (or family) would want to jump in and at least try to help out?

I'm not sure lily, and Gwen, had family left at that point. Friends of lily, and her husband's family, may not have known her well enough to make such an attempt.

Maybe not...Though there's at least an aunt (Gwen tells Lily that rehab requires a family session and her only choices are her sister or their aunt). I just find it hard to imagine no one making a move during that speech, though to be fair I can Kind of see trying to just ignore the rest (being late, slurring/stumbling, dancing and laughing and messing with the food like crazy people) and hope she doesn't ruin everything.

Or maybe my family's more ruthless, lol. She's not finishing that toast.
