There's ONE bit of insightful wisdom in this film...

"No one adult human being is happy! People are born, they have a limited amount of time going around thinking life is dandy but then, inevitably, tragedy strikes and they realise life equals loss! The whole point of the game is to minimise the pain caused by that equation! Now some people do it by having kids, or making money, or taking up coin collecting, and others do it by getting wasted"

... and it's spoken by a character whom I think the makers want us to dislike. Own goal, if you ask me.

I'm sorry, I don't speak monkey...

Yeah it's a pretty gold quote.

LOL I think I typed it up to IMDb many years ago. Most of the quotes, actually. I was such a little nerd.

Agreed. It's the one thing that really resonates!

“minimise the pain caused by that equation” Gwyneth has pain that she tried to numb with alcohol and pills. But eventually those substances wear off and you still have the pain along with guilt and shame. I think her new way of minimizing the pain is confronting aspects of her life that bother her like her sister, like the death of her mother etc. So in a sense what Gwyneth is doing jives with Jasper's point.
