Its a modern day verson of Necessart Roughness, they based this move off that one, so to say they stole isn't true or ripped it off, they just did a modern remake.

Then it should have been called Necessary Roughness, not this piece of crappola. They paid no such honor to the original movie, not even a 'Thank y ou'. It is a blatent idea ripoff. What, did they think none of us would remember Necessary Roughness????

Hollywood and TV do this so often, it sickens me. When they can't come up with a good idea of their own, they rip something off and make it just different enough not to get sued. TV is the worse, but Hollywood has its fair share.

That was the one about Texas State with Sinbad, the guy from Quantum Leap, and Kathy Ireland as the kicker. If I recall that movie correctly, it's about a college football program that lost all of its players to academic ineligibility or something like that, and had to go find a bunch of scrubs to fill out the club. The guy from Quantum Leap was the lead, and he'd played three years of college ball before but dropped out or something with one year of eligibility left.

the sumo wrestler wasn't the center he was the right tackle - and the center in necessary roughness was either hawaiian or samoan.

Yeah, but they called him the Sumo wrestler and he even did the same Sumo dance after a tackle.

He was SAMOAN not a sumo wrestler and his dance was the "I'm gonna go out and get me some POI" sack dance.....

I hate it when people don't pay attention to a movie and then write a complaint about it .....It like the people who sing the wrong words to a good song...

I have probably watched this movie more than the average person, so don't make assumptions about me. Its a very similiar character, and you know it.

I need some help winning a bet. In Necessary Roughness - there was a scene where the ref threw a flag and listed off a bunch of ninja moves. However, I also thought the same kind of scene happened in the Replacements - toward the end. I believe the scene I'm thinking of is the first play of the 2nd half of the Dallas game.

Replacements=Necessary Roughness...the pro version.

I'm glad this thread already existed. I was going to start one if it didn't. It's nice to know that others feel the same way.

Some other similarities...

The reluctant quarterback

The overly-militant player(Sargie Wilkinson/Bateman)

The reluctant coach that has to be talked into the situation by the school president/team owner

The foriegn kicker(remember, in NR, Mackenzie was the kicker before they got Lucy late in the season)

The QB has to learn (with the wisdom of his coach) to become a leader.

Set of brothers/twins playing lineman

Ok, first of all... Necessary Roughness is an absolutely atrocious movie and this flawed movie is an upgrade from it.

Second, the plot for this film is loosely based off the 1987 Washington Redskins. There was a players strike at the begninning of the season and the Skins started of 4-0 and went on to win the Superbowl that year.

3rd, it is a staple of comedic football movies to have a speedy WR who cannot catch... even Little Giants did it. The shaky QB is again a staple. Necessary Roughness doesn't have a patent on these comedic elements.

I'm one of the few people who can claim to have seen both in the theaters. Don't know if that's something to be proud of but I love them both.

The Replacements blended from a lot of past sports movies. You'll also notice ideas from The Longest Yard.

Movies about football are usually filled with clichés. It is almost unavoidable.
