Back-Up QBs?

I like this movie quite a bit, but I always wondered why Washington didn't seem to have any back-up QB's. I mean with the amount of times he got sacked, it must have occured to somebody that he could've gotten injured. Even if you take into account that for some reason they couldn't find an extra QB before, couldn't they have just kept Falco as the backup when Martel returned?

Falco did not have a backup, they didn't run drills til he got there. I think it signifies how short staffed they were; when players get hurt in the last game, defensive players have to play offense as well. In reality, the first string offense never practices against the first string defense and starting quarterbacks rarely hold for field goals.

As far as Martel; O' Neil says Martel and "carr" crossed the line. This mysterious carr character has no significance and we don't seem to notice any new players making a difference in the last game. The writers obviously put this line in for a reason. I'm thinking Carr was Martels regular backup.

Starting QBs sometimes hold for field goals in the NFL. Remember the infamous Dallas game when Tony Romo fumbled the snap on a FG attempt?

reply

Yeah that was the year Romo replaced Bledsoe as the starting QB and Romo was holding all year. So at the start of the year the holder was the backup QB, they just didn't switch holders when the backup became the starter.

If I watched it right, Wilson Carr was a big lineman. He can be seen in the bar fight scene as the guy Fumiko stands over and later he's standing behind Martel before taking the field to start the Dallas game.

However Carr is never seen again which bugs me but the point is, he was not Martel's backup.
