Movies we're embarrased to love

This is one of those movies I just love, cinematic importance aside. I'd say every film buff, or person who at least appreciates the good movies without getting their panties in a bunch over the Fantastic Four or Spider Man 3, has a few head turners on their favorites list. You know, the cliche ridden, badly reviewed movies that you just can't help but watch over and over. This is definetely one of mine. I love the scene where Falco and his cheerleader GF are in her bar, and just as he's about to leave, he turns and looks at her. They approach each other slowly, and suddenly you hear John Madden on commentary. You realize it's obviously in the context of a football game, but the situation on the field mirrors what's going on right then and there, as they kiss passionately! Wow, so corny but great! What other "bad" movies do you have in your collection that you are sorta embarrased by?

i feel you two of my faves are Major Payne and Varsit Blues. Not exactly Oscar material but really enjoyable to me.

For some reason I've always loved "Mannequin". Kim Cattrall is gorgeous
in it. Andrew McCarthy is likable, Meshach Taylor is hilarious,
GW Bailey and James Spader are great too. A silly, yet fun 80's movie.
Another guilty pleasure is Sylvester Stallone's comedy "Oscar". Altho there are some lines that make you cringe, there are many exchanges that are laugh-out-loud funny.

I love that one.

Personally I think I have more movies in my collection that would fall under the "guilty pleasure" definition than don't fall under it. I watch movies to be entertained, if that entertainment can coincide with "importance" in a movie, then so be it. If I am entertained by Legally Blonde, so be it.

I have often wondered what makes a movie "important" in the first place. An awful lot of the Oscar contenders I have seen over the years and the movies that are considered somehow "important" don't entertain me in the slightest.

This doesn't mean I need jokes or inanity to be entertained, I loved Schindler's List, and it was about as far from funny as it's possible to get. I have been entertained by some "important" movies, but mostly I'm just bored.

Well written. "Important" movies are harder to do from a quality standpoint. But I tend to agree, entertainment is job 1. If it sticks with you for a while, or a lifetime, that makes it a classic.

Howard the Duck. You are indeed brave for admitting that, hehe. Me on the other hand, I love this movie. Took my wife (who grudgingly went) to the theater to see it, and she loved it.

There are a few movies on my list that alot of people hate. I like some "bad" sci-fi films like Virtuosity and Babylon AD. I got blasted on another board for saying I liked Babylon AD. I can see what they tried to do with it (it got edited all to hell) and like it for what it is.

I hadn't seen The Replacements for awhile and watching it again recently made me realise how much I do like it, as derivative as it is.
