What is Pip's dept to Mounshroud?

Mounshroud keeps talking of the appointment between him and Pip and that he must collect his soul through the pumpkin. Why must he have his soul, what did Pip ever owe him? Did his ghost make a deal with him to be kept alive or something?

Moonshroud is akin to the angel of death. The debt he speaks of is simply his life. I also think Moonshroud only collects on Halloween.

Pip was simply fated to die that Halloween..his friends bought off Moundshroud by offering a year of their lives each. He was intrigued by the deal so he accepted.
