Melba Moore!

Why was a big deal not made about Ms. Moore's return? Had I known, I would have gone to see this! (I would have lifted my grudge against Cuba for "Boat Trip".) All you Beyonce fans out there should know that this woman can sing like there's no tomorrow! And to think she was actually on welfare at some point in the 1990s. She was one of the great soul singers of the 1970s with some disco crossover hits that were smokin' ("You Stepped Into My Life")! Her song "Falling" was a minor hit in the 1980s. (They played the video on VH-1 back when VH-1 actually played music videos.) She also had a "comeback" album in 1990 that got some play on R & B stations before things apparently took a downturn.

I can't wait for this to come out on DVD now, because I'm sure MM's still got it! SHAME on the marketing people for not letting us know! (It would have taken just 2 seconds to say her name in the trailer, and I'd have been there.)

Now if only someone would cast Stephanie Mills in something, then I'd get my butt to the theatre, toot sweet!

I hadn't really heard of her before so I didn't really know who she was, but the movie was a pleasant introduction for a younger generation, I think. She did remarkably well on "time to come home".

Oooh, she has a solo? Now I definitely have to see it! I am not surprised she did "remarkably well". The lady has always had an amazing vocal range. I hope a few more people will know her now. Thanks for your reply.

Recalling back on an article from either Jet or Ebony mag in the early 90's, Melba ended up on welfare because her then manager/husband misappropriated her funds. Shame the way her friends turned their backs on her. I recall her being on a talk show discussing her downfall, but she's back now and I still have a big ole place in my heart for her singing.

Melba's hubby stole her money and then left her for Michael Michelle. I have never been a fan of M Michelle because of that..

If I had known Moore was in the flick I would have gone to see it! It's on Showtime all day today (7/30/05).

Hmm... I didn't know tha about Michael Michelle.

Anyway Ms. Moore was funny in this role and it was good to hear her sing, but I wish they gave her more singing parts.
