The black girl with the curly hair. I think I remember a scene in that movie where she was eating a dinner plate and I never understood that.

If that did happen, it must've been very fast, and therefore, irrelevant to the plot other than to make these girls looking... not like normal girls their age. That's a common theme here.

No, she was breaking up old china to decorate a mirror with ceramic mosaic. In between were scenes of her being bulimic.
