only a 7.6?

I can't believe this movie only has a rating of 7.6. I rate it 10. At least, i see that 53% of all the raters gave it a 9 or 10. There is some hope left for the world.

Many scenes are very beautiful. But the boy felt so miserable throughout most of the film, and the plot was altogether such a downer, that to enjoy this beauty seems like a guilty pleasure. I can certainly understand an ambivalent reception.

It takes quite a guilty conscience to come to this response, I gather...
which I guess is okay, and one ought to look at art ambivalently, as this is a supreme example of it.
But. How can one be "depressed" by a thing of beauty?
My main problem with the film (a minor issue) was that is was a touch to sentimental. Certainly that angle didn't bother the guy in front of me in the theater -when I saw it for a third time in 2000- as his cell phone rang and rang towards the ending, and when he finally answered the damned thing, he kept talking on it throughout the film's most poignant passage, as if he we still in line to buy tickets for it.
To call this film a "downer" is a new one on me. I found it a joyous film. Then again, I also found 'Taste of Cherry' likewise.
A depressing film for me is one adapted from Nicholas Sparks or superhero comix.

Come on, everybody, see Lemon Tree!
