Was this filmed in Iran?

I found this movie visually spellbinding. I wanted to know where it was filmed, but IMDB doesn't list the filming locations. I figured it might be Iran, but there was nothing remotely desert-like in this movie. I never knew Iran could be so densely forested and lush. It made me want to go there. Beautiful!

Yes, the Caspian coast is indeed subtropical. Google Maps:

Much of Iran is actually mountainous. I have read that Teheran is so surrounded by mountains as to be practically impregnable. Invading Iran would be a much tougher proposition than a matter of just rolling across a desert with tanks, and imagining otherwise would be very dangerous assumption. I wouldn't be surprised if Bush never realized this; but fortunately, cooler heads now prevail.

Yes, That is Iran, North of Iran, and some tehran suburbs. I don,t know why many people compare Iran with Arabics country, deserts, camels. Actually, Iran is not thoroughly seen and I think its our faults that did not try to show it to the world (Speak from Persia). I invite you to come and see Iran.

Rgds.

Cheers, my Persian friend...
Hello from the USA
Yes, Iran is a beautiful, diverse region.
My father was stationed there, in the early 70's and I was lucky enough to see some of the country.
Yes, there are desert regions, but also cities, forests, and a wonderful coastal region. There was even a flood while we were there...
people canoing up/down the street...
I found the people to be friendly and accepting, even though I was a 10 year old long haired, anglo American at the time..
The culture is fascinating...
and the food is excellent!
I think just as with the USSR in the 50s-80's, Iran is a much misunderstood country...
I think people get too caught up in political propaganda, instead of thinking for themselves...
although the internet has allowed for many to weed thru all of that..
Hopefully, someday, all the chaos happening in the middle east will cease, and once again I will be able to visit again...
Cheers

Not all Arabic countries are deserts either. Lebanon, for example, has no deserts at all.

reply

You've obviously never been to Lebanon. The area around Baalbek in the Beqaa Valley is very much a desert.

Great visual. Iran has top notch Skiing resort. So does Morocco in Africa. You don't think of snow when you think about these countries. But yes they do have them.

reply

Yes, I think it's in the northern areas. I've been there twice and I can assure that it's one of the Most eye-pleeasing regions in the WORLD.

i don't now where was the movie filmed, but, actually, assuming the middle east is a place all around the deserts is not correct. in fact term of Middle East is geographically useless because of referrin very very big land. maybe we might imagine Arab region as a desert but iran is a country at the middle of the north hemisphere, it is possibble that this movie filmed in iran.

Yes, it was filmed in the north of Iran, which is one of the most beautiful areas on earth.

Did you know they even have snow skiing resorts in northern Iran? Yup!
There are deserts in much of Iran, but it also has very beautiful areas.
See also "Children of Heaven," which is also directed by Majidi. It is a pure joy.
