liqueur made from walnuts

Was the beverage that Gourville (Timothy Spall) enjoyed in Vatel's quarters (that Vatel explained was made from walnuts), the Italian liueuer Nocino or possibly Nocello which contains caramal and hazelenut and is possibly a little lighter in colour? Although I think both those spirits are of a thicker and darker susbstance than the drink that Gourville shook in its glass, which seemed to have the same consistency as Armagnac or Cognac. Of course, the movie is representative of 18th Century events and artistic license is only fair.

I make both Nocino and Vin de Noir from walnuts.

Nocino is green walnuts macerated with distilled spirits (i.e., Everclear or Vodka) and mixed with simple syrup and spices. Vin de Noir is green walnuts blended with brandy and red wine (and syrup and spices) and is definitely a thinner and lighter drink than Nocino.

Both are heavenly and commercial versions of Nocino can be very thick and unctuous, but homemade versions are nothing to dismiss and can be quite tasty!
