Prince de Conde's gout treatment

Is the pouring of blood from a bird's heart on Conde's(Glover) gout an accurate historical treatment of gout at that time-the 17th century?

reply

at that time people thougth blood form a bird's heart will cure gout but obiously it doesn't make you any good

reply

medieval treatments :D they never did much good did they?

reply

The treatment is the accurate one for the times but they knew NOTHING at this time period! It was tragic how little the doctors knew at this point.

They knew a heck of a lot more in the middle east at this time than they did in Europe, where people were just downright filthy. But as Steve Martin said so eloquently on Saturday Night Live:
"Say, who's the barber here?"

Here is the whole skit, an absolute classic.

Yup, nothing beats having a barber cut open your arm so your can "bleed the foulness away" into a bowl.
