Worst controls ever

So I played Tomb Raider: Legend on the Gamecube, great game, loved it. Decided since I had a PS to get the old Tomb Raider games. Big mistake. This one, and #2, are *beep* ridiculous! I don't think I've ever played a more retardedly controlled game. 1/10!

I heard that you also won the "suckiest gamer" award in 2005. Clearly you are lying and are probably a mythomaniac who needs to be institutionalised.

Prestigous, sweetie, which would not include this mirage-worthy "suckiest gamer" award, which you have so cleverly conjured up from the pits of hell (aka your back yard). Such an award doesn't even exist, sorry to break it to you.

Whateverrrrrr seemore-f9ckfaces, this has nothing to do with Mapping. Did you not read the thread title, retarded BITCH?

The controls on ~Lara Croft Tomb Raider 1996~ are totally horrendous and complicated. Most of the time the fat bitch doesn't even jump when you push the button, and she constantly fuc9king runs into walls. You mean to tell me you use the controls with ease? Yeah right! Please videotape yourself playing the game with ease and then we will talk.

This game sucks. It sucks sucks sucks. I will let it slide, though, cause the later games in the series are ~glamariss~ but this original one is def a 1/10. It's basically like a piece of sh!t idea that they just kept improving upon as each one came out.

I used the controls with ease when I used to play it.

The new ones suck, they are too easy. And I'm not even that good at games.

They didn't improve, they stole from the crappy movie. Tomb Raider sucks now, but I will always remember it for the originals that didn't suck.

I agree with ReallyGoodName. The controls are a little clunky by todays standards but I never had a problem using them. I was a kid when this came out and finished the game pretty easily. I had trouble with a few of the puzzles but never the controls. Considering that Tomb Raider was the first interactive 3D adventure game Core actually did a fantastic job.

To be honest, I didn't find the normal movement controls in TR6:AoD all that different than in the previous games. What I had a problem with was the way that they screwed up the combat. Lara not only turns to face the closest enemy any time she has a gun drawn, making it impossible to see where you're going, she also dances all around, making accurate movement impossible.

I agree, although if they had kept the combat the same as in the previous games, I really wouldn't have too many complaints about the controls. As it is though, I consider the combat to be borderline unplayable.

For example, during the shootout with the cleaner in the apartment, I hid behind one of the bookshelves, then I would move right, fire a few shots and then move left back behind the shelves. At least that's what I tried to do. Even though I never touched the forward key (I used the keyboard in the Windows version), when I'd move left, about 50% of the time, I'd bump into the end of the shelf, even though I should have gone right back to where I started from.

Not to mention that during the boss fight with the big mutant creature where you need to shoot the four sacks on its back, the targeting doesn't automatically switch to the rear sacks after you destroy the front ones. You have to press a key on the keyboard, which the manual doesn't tell you about. After going on the net to find out what I was doing wrong and finding out about the key to change targets, I went through the manual (little jewel case booklet) and I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere.

I've love to see someone remake the entire AoD game for the TR5 engine. Maybe they could fix some of the other dozen bugs and finish the tutorial level.

LMAO, dude have you ever stop to think that this game was back in 1996!!!!???
yeah i do remember the controls were sucky, but back then it was the *beep*

reply

Yes I am aware what year it's from lol. I played Super Mario 64, when it was first released, and completed it, and it HAD clunky controls. Tomb Raider 96 was just downright ridiculous. I don't care if it was the first 3D interactive game, it could've had a lot more grace.

I'm being 100% serious too lol, this game is so unreasonable. For me it's not fun to jump up for an hour on platforms, only to have her fat ass not respond to the jump command at the very end and then you fall. What a waste of time.

And no it's not my controller. I even purchased a second brand new one just in case. I've tried everything to potentially make it a more enjoyable experience and nothing works. The controls just suck to the point where the game is unplayable.

It's a sad thing that your adventures have ended here

Another thing that's frustrating, take the first level for example...how come it takes about 10 minutes just to run to a destination? They designed her too slow.

A lot of people seem to treat Tomb Raider like a typical platform game, only in 3D, when in reality, it's a 3D puzzle game. Not only do you have to figure out how to get past obstacles, you also have to figure out how to get through the levels.

The entire game is based on a grid system and Lara's moves are measured to allow you to get to exactly where you need to go. She always needs to take exactly the same number of steps before jumping, she always jumps the same distance, etc.

To perform a running jump, she needs exactly the amount of space provided by taking one hop back. As the tutorial (her mansion) tells you, to perfectly perform a running jump, walk to the edge, line up the jump, hop back, start running and immediately press the jump key. Lara will jump right at the edge. If you want to perform a running jump without stopping, then you need to press the jump button a couple steps before the edge to give her the same distance to the edge as if you performed the hop back maneuver.

I won't say that the controls are perfect, but once you get used to them, they work fairly well. Just don't expect it to work like a typical action game.

As for Lara moving slowly (your other message); The speed in Tomb Raider is much more realistic than in most other games. In other games, you can spin your character like a top and run at speeds only a cheetah would be able to reach.
