Is the horrible English dub intentional or unintentional?

Were they tight on budget, or did they do it intentionally to make it look like a B Horror movie?

I think the ability to have speaking audio in a video game was relativly new at the time, so I'm guessing it's a combination of unfamiliarality with the language(english) and hiring actors on the cheap. I wonder if the Japanese dialog used is equally bad.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I read that the makers originally intended to have Japanese voice actors for the original Japanese version, but instead went with the English-speaking actors and just used japanese subtitles. The reason for this was that they found the japanese voice acting to not be up to par....but it couldn't have been any worse than the version we got.

I think it was unintentional but it's damned hilarious.

I think its definitely intentional. Lines like "Wait, dont open that door!" come to mind. Its supposed to be cheesy and over the top.
