The G rating...really!?

The fact that these movies were always rated G confuses me, especially this one. I guess Pokemon was never taken that seriously by the MPAA. I mean, come on. I know when you think Pokemon you think kids...but I've seen even milder kids' movies with a PG rating. There's battle violence, character death, scientists burning alive, all kinds of dark themes. I know it's Pokemon, but G rated? With most movies even the implication of mature themes is enough to get a PG. At least you'd think the battle sequences would do the trick.

But hey, I guess that's what they get for leaving out the birth of Mewtwo opening. I've always kind of gotten the sense that the MPAA sees the word "Pokemon" and instantly rates hastily. I know it's far-fetched, but honestly.

Again, I'm pretty sure most censors just see "Pokemon" and brush it off with a G. It'd be weird for them to actually give it a chance and rate it higher. Plus lots of other cartoon adaptations get PGed and they're a lot more mild (Spongebob, anybody?). Like you said, the failing clones is pretty dark. There's so much of that in stuff. Plus Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon were both PG, there's no reason this one couldn't be the same. It's technically about fighting animals, lol.

It's a G. Sometimes, G rated films need a little violence.
