Okay, let's make those last episodes happen!

Okay, Apes, if you're like me, you've now got the whole Roughnecks series on dvd!

EXCEPT of course for those episodes they didn't finish. Note that I said "didn't finish," not "didn't make." From what I have heard, the audio on all the missing episodes is complete. The only thing missing is the graphics!

So let's put forth a concerted effort to find out EXACTLY what it would take to get those last episodes finished and out there.

Of course, the bottom line of what it would take can be summed up in one word... MONEY. I propose, that if necessary, we raise the funds required to finish the episodes and distribute them on DVD.

Of course, the first question is "how?"

I have some ideas about this, but I'd be interested to hear from some others first. Let's brainstorm!

reply

Well first you'd have to get your hands on the audio recordings. You'd also have to get a group of people who are really good with CGI. And then you'd have to distribute the episodes without making any profit at all, unless you want to run into legal troubles. Sounds like a hoot.

Enough DVD sales and online forum shouts to get a studio to pick it up.

Im down - i loved this show when it first came out on TV - had forgotten all about it until i saw an add in another DVD purchase for the "Complete Campains" was sooooo happy to have found it that i went to the nearest store and purchased it right away - loved every min until i realized that it was cut short of an ending.

Need the final epps!!!

The whole thing was an excerise in disaster from the start. It was sold too early to the TV stations, meaning they had to keep repeating the episodes they had as new ones hadn't been made. Other stations showed it out of order so there was no continuity to the story, it was also release out of order on DVD too.
What gets me though is despite all the problems thousands of people really enjoyed this show myself included. They used to show it on Sky One in the UK at 6.30am! out of sequence. Recently I finally tracked down the complete series and watch them as they were intended. After watching it it's made me so angry that some 'suits' killed of one of the best things ever on TV. It had everything, brilliant cgi animation, characters you could really care about not to mention great storylines. To me, this series was way, way better than the live action movie. If only someone had the forsight to finish the final campaign, maybe do a full length cgi movie. They could start showing the full series again on TV at a reasonable time and in sequence. That would drum up enough public interest to warrant a second season. It would be nice to see how LT Rico and the roughnecks turn out. Come on Sony, do the right thing for once!

We realy need to make a petition and sign it!
This is one if not the best CGI animation ever, when you bring sound, graphics and storyline all togheter.
I am backing this up 110%

Has anyone contacted the original producer(s) and CGI people about this matter?

Actually, does anyone know where the profits from the DVD sales are going? Are some of them going back to the producer(s)? Maybe some of that money could be diverted into producing those last four episodes, and then releasing a Directors Cut version of the series, containing the "missing" episodes inserted after all the others. Or perhaps even a seperate DVD with just the "missing" episodes.

Course, another idea might be to do something like what the DrWho people do with missing episodes where the audio is intact: Produce a version with the audio, backed up with still pictures and some motion sequences appearing as appropriate to that part of the audio, and then including THAT on one of the DVDs.

It wasn't cancelled because of low ratings, but because it was too much money to produce.

reply

I don't think I can agree with you on the characters. Their is never any room for character development. As soon as they are done with one battle they are in another one and this happens until the episode ends.

Okay I loved this show. It was so awesome. I plan on getting the complete campaigns since I have not seen the whole series yet either. I was just lucky and was able to catch the show on Sky One and possibly another network. Anyways, from what I have read and heard, the series was completed. The last episode is supposed to be a cliffhanger. Also, someone said each campaign is a season. Also, if you want you could just make the lost episodes yourself. There's plenty of sites you can go to to learn CGI stuff.

reply

Then why does it HAVE to be in CGI? Especially if you have audio tracks...if the last three episodes were drawn well enough to put on TV (which they wouldnt be), im sure the studio would be willing to give a little money to whoever did it (assuming that its within union guidelines and dont forget that the voice actors would still have to be paid).

Or maybe George could 'test run' his system for the upcoming Clone Wars and use those 4x as prep and trial... :)

On the offchance that people still give a damn, I'll post Chuckbarris's petition. I wouldn't have signed it myself as I don't like to get my hopes up, but the petition is getting pretty steady signatures considering its lack of exposure.

There is now an online petition to finish the last three episodes of the series! You can sign it over at

http://www.gopetition.com/online/11200.html

You should make sure to leave a comment with your signature, they tend to give a petition more force. Show Sony just how much you want this series finished!

Has anyone ever heard of Second Life? With some work, it would be entirely possible to film the missing/final episodes. The style wouldn't be exactly the same but it's something. With the right people doing the work, Second Life can produce some pretty impressive graphics.

You would need the scripts... Does anyone know who wrote them?

You would also need the recorded audio tracks.

And, you would of course need a producer. Someone to oversee the project who actually knows what their doing.

reply

it requires roughly $50'000 dollars a minute.

Lets Do it, Lets get this series finished cause im sick of all the "suites" cancelling all the best shows like DeadWood and Rome just for example, I know that i would purchase every single different copy of the series it was to be completed.

Come on Lets Do It :D

reply

Okay people Id hate to be the bearer of bad news but they shows WILL NEVER BE FINISHED.

Example for my assumption:
Between then and now they have released not one but 2 full length films on the franchise based on the live action movie that was released in 1997. Considering both those sucked complete ass, and the fact that the demograph fro the SST Chronicles consists of the lower teen spectrum (basically the broke children who generate nearly 0 advertisement revenue except at christmas) you can pretty much kiss the finale goodbye.

Now dont get me wrong, this brings me no pleasure to have this realization. I think the animated shows are incredibly cool, and aside from the last 2 movies even the first flick was pretty interesting to watch.

But facts remane. Nowadays, People like Miley Cyrus and the likes make the money....Cool IP's and interesting scripting...doesnt matter anymore :(.
