Doesn't any human ever die in this!?

Okay so I'm tired of keep looking at those corny bugs get crushed between doors and stuff. Doesn't any humans ever die in this series? God this is so unrealistic.

Many humans died, you never saw the deaths directly but it was mostly dropships getting shot down or fighters being ripped apart by the bugs. A few times you saw the bugs take out a few troopers directly, it was also a show directed to mostly younger people. Also Raczak was blew him self up with a grenade while being takin under by a water bug the explosion happened under water but it was made clear he took his life to save his fellow troopers during the home front campaign.

Heck yeah. By the way, if you want the OFFICIAL names for the bugs, look at this web-site: www.trooperpx.com/RSTC/series.html.

There wa sone episode, when they where on Earth, and in an officer's room, and in the backgrounf there was a long, long list of death troopers's name

reply

Your right. The lack of deaths is very unrealistic in this series about a whole bunch of space soldiers in high tech armour, and flying spaceplanes, and an endless variety of ever-evolving evil space bugs! It's unfortunate that the lack of death is the only unrealistic thing.

Barcalow dies. Sgt. Bruhto is permanently paralyzed from the waste down, Razahk dies, when they confront the first brain bug you see many pierced helmets of previous troopers who had their brains sucked out, CHAS dies (Though that depends on your view of life and death; CHAS says he was never alive but at the end of the episode Higgins remarks that though the record shows no casualties on that mission, the Roughnecks knew they lost one of their own.), the crew of the other transport in the Zephyr campaign dies, Rico's and Dizzy's parents die (Actually one of them finds out their parents are MIA. This was in an episode that was shown on tv, but never put on any of the dvds {Stupid evil corporation}) In two episodes, a flashback is shown from Operation Pest Control where Razahk's entire squad gets wiped out except for him (This is where he lost his arm) The park ranger from the episode Funeral for a Friend gets killed. They show a lot of aircraft exploding in some episodes, or mention losses. There is a lot of casualties actually. They just do not usually show them actually dying, just shows them dead, except for the flashback to Pest Control, I think you actually see a soldier being killed by a warrior bug. They sort of show Razahk dying, as well as Barcalow. They show how Bruhto gets paralyzed. They show aircraft being destroyed. Oh, they show an impostor bug killing atleast 2 soldiers.

Yeah thats a pretty solid list, Rico nearly gets killed by a spider probably the most graphic wounding in the show. And we see the sorry shape Zebra squad is in showing obviously the bugs can do some damage. I think a few of the skinnies get wasted. Oh yeah and in Homefront that entire town was killed and replaced by Imposter bugs.

It was a kids show so ofcourse it is going to be tame compared to the R Rated movie. But in all they do a good job hinting at major trooper losses. even in the first episode when all squads get rported R triple D it shows all is not well the bugs are not just push overs. In a way I think because the series could not simply fallback to gruesome carnage it forced better writining and creativity.

I thought Zander became infected, joined the bugs for a while, then switched sides again and was killed while fighting lots of bugs?

reply

Yeah I remember being put off by the lack of human casualties in this series too, it seemed even if the troopers went to battle Satan himself they would all come back dandy.

This is why Robotech rocked.

If you look at some of the anime series that came over to the US, they were actually rewritten to avoid deaths. Robotech, Voltron, etc...

Dialogue would mention that someone was "in the hospital", or someone would say "the escape pod was picked up", any ships that were destroyed were "robot piloted", I think Voltron even brought back a specific character, although it was actually their brother in the original Japanese version.

The series actually had quite a bit of death in it, its just that to appease the censors theyd cut away before things were actually getting messy, or have the deaths shown at great distance, such as cities or spaceships getting destroyed.

At least they didnt cop out like in say Battle of the Planets where they called all those human agents of Spectra "robots" etc ad nausium.

Yea Voltron is nearly unwatchable now that I'm older because of all of that "They survived". The best was in vechicle voltron, they say "the captain sacrificed his ship so has to stay in the base" as their excuse to why he's not in later episodes.
