As soon as I saw the bird in the beginning, I knew someone was gonna kill it.
It was so lame and cruel and unnecessary!!!
Why did Jean kill the bird?
And how could Julie forgive him?
It was stupid I hate it!!!

I didn't realize it was supposed to be symbolic.
Still, I think they could have managed it some other way.
