the father

Sorry to start three different threads. My questions are all unrelated. Anyway, I have a question about Holly's father. Was he really a nazi? Why on earth would he hang a swastika in his living room? I can understand if you are a history buff and collect memorabilia from the war, but to hang a swastika on your wall takes it to a whole other level. He seemed like a decent guy, what was the purpose of that flag?

He wasn't a Nazi...Just found it was a collector of memorbilia. I agree it is offensive...some people are wierd with the stuff they collect and don't even think about how offensive it is to others. He explained to Ira why it was there, but Tom Skerritt is so quiet when he talks sometimes, it was hard to hear him.

i think he said he found it in a french town that he helped liberate. he kept it as a reminder of the evil they overcame, etc. he had a good explanation i thought.

Oh I see. I still find it a little strange, like hang it in your study or something, not the family room, but that explanation makes sense. Thanks!
