any suggestions about movies like this one?
I don't bother reading at critics on weekly tabloids about movies. If a movie like this has a 6.5 /10 , then I think I cannot find movies like this around here..
Any suggestion would be appreciated

I'd put "Bodies, Rest & Motion" in the same class for tone and meaning. Dialogue wise, it's on the same level as "Reversal of Fortune". If by chance you haven't seen it, I'd also recommend "Glengarry Glen Ross".

chewy character pieces with only 1 or 2 sets *or* 1 single real-world location:
The Anniversary Party
Trees Lounge
Glengarry Glen Ross
Kontroll
Lost in Translation
Living in Oblivion
Four Rooms
Four Rooms????
Lost in translation???
kidding me?
no. while not identical by any means, Four Rooms and Lost in Translation are films similar to The Big Kahuna in a very crucial way:
they are films that "feel" like stageplays.
oh , ok I agree. I watched four rooms and it was fun!! it feels like a stageplay but they don't discuss same subjects

few films/movies/stageplays ever discuss the same subjects.
and few films will hit as many notes (office politics, religion, broken marriages) as effortlessly as The Big Kahuna does.
the anniversary party is absolutely amazing, but it has a MUCH different feel than this movie.
i can say that fans of TBK should enjoy the anniversary party though. some heavy drama and some light hearted banter and situations.
but still, way different feel.
How about Alfred Hitchcocks masterpeice Rope. Possible my favorite hitchcock film.
shareThe most similar movie I can think of is "Clerks". The first one. It was similar in three ways:
#1. Extremely dialog heavy.
#2. Limited Set.
#3. Subject matter revolving around our role as workers / what exactly we owe or don't owe to our employers.
I also am interested in more movies like this, and I think I'll check out some of the suggestions on this page. One poster put "In The Company Of Men" which is one of my favorite movies for many of the same reasons.
Nobody's mentioned it yet, but I'm really looking forward to seeing "My Dinner With Andre" (from 1981), which I understand is very similar as well.
A movie like this in that the cast is only a few people is Before sunrise, and before sunset I love those movies.

Mindwalk is fantastic!
shareNot one mention of Glengarry Glen Ross?
With signatures, I'm about as expert as a palsy victim doing brain surgery with a pipe wrench.
A great movie that was just released last fall on DVD is "The Boys in the Band". It was originally a stage play. When it was to be filmed the writer/producer insisted that the entire stage cast be signed on for the movie. They were. It is full of crisp dialogue and moves along like Hitchcock's "Rope". I, of course, agree with you on "Glengarry Glen Ross". I first saw it on stage at the Alley Theatre, Houston Texas several years before it became a movie. Excellent casting. However, Joe Mantegna had the Ricky Roma role on Broadway. I think that he should have been cast in the movie.
shareGlengarry.
ARE YOU GONNA BARK ALL DAY LITTLE DOGGY... OR ARE YOU GONNA BITE ?
All good suggestions.
BTW, one of my favorite lines from TBK is: "Did you mention perhaps what line of industrial lubricants Jesus would have endorsed"?
i think big kahuna is very unique film, glengarry glen ross is just faint version.
really, couldnt remember any similar movie, although i havent seen recommended films above (aniversary, spring forward, etc.)
i am also searching something like big kahuna, but just cant find anything. something with the mix of humorous, religious, dramatic themes that big kahuna has.
Another poster reminded me of this, so I can't take credit, but the movie you want to see ASAP is:
Sunset Limited, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson.
Made for cable, but when you flip a stage play, who needs a budget?
In the words of my fellow poster, it puts TBK to shame.
Available on Netflix, DVD only.
Check it out!
Try:

I could go on and on as a movie buff, but these are the ones that quickly came up. Have fun.

Huh. All of the movies above are actually good. And TBK falls apart like RV toilet paper in the second act. Two stars for acting and a decent setup.
shareJust saw People Will Talk in Netflix Instatview. Not a great movie in my opinion, but Grant's character is winning, of course. (And the female lead -- what's her name again? -- fades inevitably into the scenery, also a matter of course.) I realize this is an overworked comparison, but it reminds one of the "agenda" movies that George Clooney has been doing in recent years (an agenda I agree with, incidentally): Good Night and Good Luck, The Men Who Stare At Goats, The Ides of March, etc.
sharehurlyburly is the most similar movie. It's pretty much the same thing as this one. A lot of talking between 3 characters. A few others involved, but mainly 3 dudes talking, talking, talking, and making clever observations, about themselves, and life I suppose. Instead of salesmen, we follow hollywood-producers. Like this movie, it is a praised play made into film. It is equally good. Kavin plays pretty much the same character as in this one. It is a kevin spacey favourite, as he has played 3 different characters in this play. In addition, you will get the best performance ever from sean penn, he won an award at the venice film-festival. It is also the best performances I've seen from gary shandling and chazz palmenteri, but that doesn't say much, as they have never been the best actors in the biz.
