Confirms what I always thought: Porn is a cesspool and a dead end.

When I was younger I was as curious as any eighteen year old male to see a porno film. Since then I've come to realize that:

A) They're about as erotic as the films I saw in shop class in high school.

B) They're all the same.

C) Participating in them is an exploitative, degrading experience, even if the
performers don't realize they're being exploited or degraded.

D) The people attracted to the porn industry behind the cameras are a bunch of
lowlife, riffraff, bottom-feeders and scum.

I saw another documentary on PBS showing even more graphically what a vicious, dehumanizing industry it really is. By the end of TGND, the industry was obviously taking it's toll on Stacy. It wasn't what she expected and she was miserable and broke.

reply

The porn industry exists because there's a demand for it. If there weren't a demand, it wouldn't exist. At least now it's safer (the performers/producers don't get hassled by the law) and less exploited by organized crime.

reply

The industry may not be as rotten as it used to be, but I think there's still something fundamentally wrong with having sex in front of a camera for money.

Nice dress. It would look great on my floor.

dude you are way overanalyzing this flick. the movie is fun. plus you get to see emile hirsch's butt

reply

Actually, that was my favorite part too. And I'm a dude!

reply

So why do you think it is wrong to have sex in front of a camera? Remember anything that is considered wrong is because of what other people deem to be wrong but those other people hardly ever have a reason why they believe.

reply

I don't think it's wrong in and of itself, but the reality is, it's a dangerous industry and many of the people who run it are bad. Did you ever wonder what kind of person gets into this business? Sex is a private, intimate act. When a porn producer finds some naive young person and pays them to have sex in front of a camera, he's using them. The effect it has on that person over time is debilitating and degrading. He or she is being paid to humiliate themselves in front of thousands of people. They may not think so at the time, but I believe subconsciously this is the effect it has.

We have sex for pleasure, to fulfill our basic needs and of course to make babies. When it becomes a day-to-day job for money the pleasure and fulfillment gradually wear away. Look at the effect it ultimately had on Stacy Valentine. She ended up being miserable.

Bottom line, porn actors are being used for commerce and profit.

Well I work at Walmart and I have heard that the company does a lot of terrible things to people in other countries. The store I work at has me do a job for them. Using people is what businesses do. As far as moral implications on pornography, I agree that young girls get sucked into porn, but we need to remember that a lot of people get sucked into jobs that they hate all over the place. Sex is for basic pleasure and for making babies but food is for sustaining our bodies and more people eat food they don't need than watch porn or act in pornos. The two highest causes of bad health and death in the US are smoking and obesity, not sex. I don't believe it cheapens the person in front of the camera unless the person feels cheapened. There is scum in all businesses, not just porn. I think the fact that it is sex is what the problem is. People still believe that sex should be intimate. Some of us believe it doesn't have to be. I myself don't feel my sex to be intimate and I am not in porn. It is just a physical act to me.

It seems to me that it's degrading to tell somebody, 'I, not you, know when you are being degraded.'

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler.

Never will understand if you pay someone to have sex, you can be arrested. Pay someone to have sex but film them, your all good.

reply

You're not paying her to have sex. You're paying her to let you film it.
